Cg138 wrote:SYL was indeed a great band. It was the project that introduced me to Dev, and in many ways, the last stop on a long road out of heavy land. I felt like Charlie in the glass elevator. I had crashed through the roof of what heavy music was, and looking back, saw the limits of expression that it could offer.
I love heavy music to this day, no doubt, but SYL had never given me what Dev is now. SYL marks a certain period of my life which was, as Dev had explained, full of chaos and confusion, spite and circumstance. I'm ready to move on as a person, and EVERY one of his musical ventures has been a monumental expression of the way I felt at the time. This music you are making is simply beautiful, and as the counterpoint to your earlier work, it makes me feel like there are still forces of benevolence in the world, and I am ready to follow you to the precipice of the musical universe.
In short, keep doing what you're doing, Dev.
We will all continue to support you and "larn" with you.
In my opinion, heavy music has the best basis to be limitless. Look at bands like Between the Buried and Me who write very heavy music but incorporate so many different styles and influences in it. "Colors" is a damn modern masterpiece of musical ingenuity. Music that is consistently heavy obviously has its boundaries though.
Hell is waiting outside beyond these walls. It won’t save your soul to panic at this point.
