I love heavy music to this day, no doubt, but SYL had never given me what Dev is now. SYL marks a certain period of my life which was, as Dev had explained, full of chaos and confusion, spite and circumstance. I'm ready to move on as a person, and EVERY one of his musical ventures has been a monumental expression of the way I felt at the time. This music you are making is simply beautiful, and as the counterpoint to your earlier work, it makes me feel like there are still forces of benevolence in the world, and I am ready to follow you to the precipice of the musical universe.

In short, keep doing what you're doing, Dev.

We will all continue to support you and "larn" with you.

In my opinion, heavy music has the best basis to be limitless. Look at bands like Between the Buried and Me who write very heavy music but incorporate so many different styles and influences in it. "Colors" is a damn modern masterpiece of musical ingenuity. Music that is consistently heavy obviously has its boundaries though.

I would agree that heavy music has the ability to be dynamically HUGE, but never limitless. No genre or form can be limitless in and of itself, but what I'm trying to get at here was that Dev himself has been so many places and said so many things musically, that to limit himself to one form would be an absolute crime.

This topic in funny to me... I understand the need for change 100% but I'm at a moment in life where I need to go the opposite way. I NEED to get into the heavier stuff more and more to be able to go forward with my own personality. I can relate to everything said by Dev and you other people but at the same time I feel left out since NOW is when I really need heavy. Ki is a great album, love it, devin is such a talent, and I must say the Nibz clip really made me curious on Addicted, seemed like a real vounerable song.... but I'm looking forward to Decon a lot more...

There are no rights or wrong here. Music changes, band members are people and changes as well. I've experianced this with Depeche Mode when "Alan Wilder" left and also going though the same thing with Nine Inch Nails (he's changing his direction with NIN) and when music that matters so much to you changes... it's a sad feeling cause you might not change with it. But noone is forcing you to either.

For me SYL respresents a way OUT of holding myself back and bad self esteem. It's 100% positive

All that needs to be said. I talk out my ass about music to anyone who will listen, but at the end of the day, it's all relative.

One cool thing though is that no matter what type of music Devin takes on... it's seems people are really touched. So we all have the love for him in common, even if you are screaming "TONIGHT WE RIDE!!" or humming along to "The greys":)

the ending will make the beginning seem ridiculious... That could be a good or bad spoiler. Depends on how easy it is to pick up on the joke, irony, what ever it may be.

Either way this is shaping up to be a real treat!

The story of Deconstruction is still in the construction stage (!) Ziltoid is a character, but in more of an observational way, it's not his 'story', he's just made an example of.

It's brutal, and unhappy, and congested, and frightening...with an unexpected resolution at the end that frees up the binds. In fact, the end makes the beginning seem ridiculous.

That guitar sounds killer aswell, have they sent you a prototype to try out? Deconstruction sounds like it's beyond anything I can even imagine. Holy smoke, I can't wait for this.

if it is going to be Devy's heaviest material ever there definitely must be Meshuggah inspired riffing included! :P Just imagine the atmosphere of a very intense movement with the chaocity of Meshuggah-like riffs. *drooooooool*
