Tomas Haake would be awesome, but he's had a bad back lately, so might not be up for it.

Charlie Zeleny is pretty good, he did a project with Bobby Jarzombek's brother Ron, called Blotted Science.

As for my favourite drummer. This guy:

The Dev wrote:Tomas is amazing of course, I never really thought of him...I wonder if it would fit?

I wonder if he'd even be interested? I know him, but you know, he's pretty busy too.

I've only listened to Meshuggah, and only three or so of their albums at that, so I could be wrong when I say... Does he have any dynamics? He seems to be very technical and impressive, but he doesn't seem to have much flair, style, or lightness that a lot of other drummers here mentioned have.

I hate to drag the SYL discussion back up for a second, and I don't mean to be just another "but but you GOTTA reuinte SYL" kinda guys, but this has been on my mind for a while now and I feel I should at least ask it. Devin's said that he's not going to reunite the band, he's explained his reasonings very well, and i never once questioned them or anything, his reasoning makes perfect sense and I fully understand him.

However, I really want to ask this, if you don't mind, because I don't think anyone has to my knowledge. Would SYL ever perform again? Not make a new album, not even a big huge tour, just maybe play a few one-off live shows at a big festival or something? Would you ever play SYL material on tours for your solo material?

I didn't get into your material until after SYL was already finished, so the closest thing I've seen was the live DVD, which was great, but it's just not the same as being there in person, you know? I know I'm not the only one here who thinks this, but whenever someone mentions something about SYL, I sorta do think it would be neat if you guys were together for a bit, not to make a new album, but to simply give me and others a chance to finally see you performing that material live.

Seems to me that this has become the "recommend a drummer for deconstruction"-thread.
Why not go for something completely different?
Aaron Funk alias "Venetian Snares" could program some sick breaks. He has done a lot of different stuff on his albums, I'm sure he could do something like that. And, well, he's from Canada too :D

The Dev wrote:Nope, actually what I'm looking for IS a progressive drummer, but one that does grinds and stuff as well, with tight snare attack, a balnce hit between cymbals and drums, and tight feet.

Been looking online, this Bobby Jarzombek cat seems to be pretty amazing. Have you heard of him?

Vitek because he was the most mechanical and creative for his age.

Vitek is dead, bro.

Marco Pitruzzella is another amazing drummer

I second whoever mentioned Richard Christy...his work on The Sound of Perseverance was amazing.

Two suggestions surprisingly unmentioned are Dave Lombardo and Brann Dailor, two of my absolute favorite drummers. Too bad they're always so busy :? Probably wouldn't be available. Flo Mounier is another fantastic choice, although he's probably busy too.

What about Derek Roddy? Another madly talented guy, check out Hate Eternal - I, Monarch. He's very diverse too.

I'd also like to mention Martin Lopez, Charlie Benante, Mike Van Dyne (Arsis), Blake Richardson (Between the Buried & Me), Andy Herrick (Chimaira), Chris Pennie (formerly Dillinger Escape Plan), Chris Adler (Lamb of God), Pete Sandoval (Morbid Angel), George Kollias (Nile), Brad Fickeisen (The Red Chord)...

Whoever mentioned Aaron Funk - wow, that would be an extremely interesting collaboration. I've just finished putting "Rossz csillag alatt született" on order after hearing it online, and it is an AMAZING album. I'm looking into more of his stuff, he is immensely talented. I don't know if an electronic musician would be right for this album, but it's an interesting thought nonetheless, and would probably sound incredible. I can't really suggest anything as far as good extreme metal drummers go, I've never paid that much attention to them, save maybe Gene and a couple others. I'm sure Dev will find someone with some absurd chops, if the past drummers he's chosen are any indication.

Here's a few more suggestions which i haven't seen mentioned.

Chris Pennie (formerly of Dillinger Escape Plan):

Yanic Bercier (formerly of Quo Vadis):

Devin with Danny Carey would be amazing, highly unlikely but that would just be amazing.

I'd also like to throw into the pool Johan Langell, ex pain of salvation drummer.
