Cool, okay thanks. I'm not on here half as often as I was and I tried looking for what's been said but I Don't have time to look through 73+ pages of this forum.

Seems like a totally understandable reason though, I 'spose he wants someone with a wide palette, something new.

I think i'll be a kickass record, but Dev, I feel you think you have a "need" of making this record extremely heavy and chaotic just because... believe me, among your fans there's a feeling of seeing SYL again, but the major part of that mayority knows (me included) that the band made a period, so make the thing just as you thing you need it to be, and not how you thing it "should be for the metalheads". I guess what i just said has 0 validation nowadays, as it has 0 sense, but, you know just saying... What i personally miss is that implicit fury you knew (and know but hasn't been used yet) put into a song... like, let's say, the synchestra vibe, where the song weren't necessaraly a series of low g riffs with a 450 bpm drums and growls, but they were pretty heavy and furius (babysong, pixilate...).

Thanks for being understanding guys, to work with Gene at this point also just overshadows Decon. with 'syl reunion!' nonsense.

Plus... Gene is busy as hell right now, Fear Factory got support with Metallica etc, he's doing just fine :)

No offense over the questions, as yeh, there is hundreds of pages to sift through here. Ask away...

And in terms of being open-ended... at the risk of sounding pretentious, life is that way...no? The more definite plans you have, the more our controlling nature freaks the fuck out when it changes. Wherever it wants to go... I'm game.

Not getting guests to be trendy, not being heavy to prove a point. It is what it is. And it's a morphing goliath.

Absolutely. Imagine all of the uninformed or just SYL-desperate metalheads, they would be going insane. Then you would have tons of interviews in which each one would ask the same question, or a variation of it: "So what does this mean for Strapping Young Lad?", "Does working with Gene Hoglan again mean anything regarding a Strapping Young Lad reunion tour or new album?", "Have you guys discussed the future of Strapping Young Lad?"

My god. What a pain in the ass

Yup, they are. :)

For some reason Metallica is skipping over Finland on this tour, so no chance to see them here, but FF played headlining shows in Scandinavia last month and Gene - and Byron (..and Dino and Burton) - were really solid and there was even more power to the show than I had expected.

backontopic: Deconstruction sounds really promising! :chain:

I'm kind of suprised Sean Reneirt hasn't been considered. That would be a fucking awesome whether it was Deconstruction or something after (I think he could fit into any context pretty easily).

I'm glad Dirk V. is on that list of potential drummers, that guy is damn gifted. Would like to maybe here some Bjorn vocals, he has great cleans, although it would probably get weird with a possibility of him and dirk on the same album. New Soilwork album will have to carry me over till the decon release.

Will we eventually get any more demo material from decon like the youtube vid released some time ago?

I think its definately a good move to very strongly seperate Deconstruction from SYL. It's a totally different adventure. I feel like any of DT's stuff is like opening a novel and jumping into a new world for an hour. The paradigm amongst fans of either or both is that there will be some link between the two 'bands'.

I'm a huge fan of SiKth. They made an absolutely huge impact on the more technical fringes of metal (listen to Fell Silent, Periphery, Monuments, Architects, Shy of the Depth, etc and you will hear riffs hand-picked out of Death of a Dead Day) and whenever any member of that band does anything now, straight away there is a buzz as to whether they will reform or how whatever new project they have will sound like it. When any band makes that much of an impact, it happens. I'd read it as a huge compliment.

Its been toiled over again and again, but all I feel the need to say that Strapping Young Lad can be whatever Devin, Gene, Byron and Jed want to make it. "Whether you think that you can, or that you can't, you are right." That's all I will strive to say on the subject of SYL in this thread.

Apologies though to ressurect this already regurgitated topic. So if you had to say there was a metal/extreme album that you would use as to what youre aiming for production wise, that an informed (metal fan) individual would know, what would that be? i.e - Textures - Silhouttes? FF - Demanufacture? etc?

Probably not, but it would be sick to have Arjen return a favour!
