Hope he gets into it, did you choose the other musicians that will play in Decon? there are some other "progressive" talented musicians out there

I love this,

and here's one of the most memorable metal drum intros I've heard(I don't care much for the song though but it was only written for his instructional DVD):

I think this is one of the greatest drummers alive though. Would love to hear him on a DTP album. Actually he woulda been great for addicted

Okay, I admit it, he would be pretty cool to have on there. I would still prefer Reinert, but I think I could live with a bit of Jarzombek.

Yeah, that JoJo guy is great, love the pseudo dub eko thing on the sanre.

RVP killed it for Addicted, he was my first choice for that album...we hadn't had a chance to really utilize his talents like Addicted, so he really really was perfect for the job.

Who (other than Gene) are your favorite drummers?

Tomas Haake.

Devin making a record with Tomas Haake is my wet dream. Also Devin singing on Fredrik Thordendals new solo album would be a killer.

Morgan Agren. The man is a fucking gem of a drummer. He's AMAZING on Thordendal's solo stuff, his Mats/Morgan work is mental. He's just fucking amazing, really.

Apologies if these are reposts. I just skimmed... Jarzombek is pretty hot shit too, must be said.

Best Drummers:
1. Gene Hoglan
2. Martin Lopez (Opeth)
3. Nick Barker (ex-dimmu)
4. Vitek (Decapitated)
These three are my favorite because all 3 are drummers that can do pretty much anything but dont always feel the need to be flashy at all times. I think alot of progressive drummers and the drummers mentioned in this thread are (while very talented) compromise alot of atmosphere in the music to make up for a wankfest. I love technical music and odd time signatures. But when every riff is complex it takes away alot and just leaves me feeling ripped off when i hear their records... There are too many of those "really good" drummers out there now that its hard for most to stand out.

Gene Hoglan is my favorite for the fact that he is pretty much a human drum machine.

Martin Lopez because every album he performed on the drums got better and better from MAYH to Ghost Reveries

Nick Barker because he has a very distinctive kick tone, and his fills are super mechanical

Vitek because he was the most mechanical and creative for his age.

Too bad Richard Christy is doing talk shows (i.e. Howard Stern) nowadays. He would be a good fit for you. I can imagine it now. When you talked about how someone hits a snare, Brann Dailor from Mastodon came into mind. For some reason, I could not picture him doing anything out of Mastodon though. What you need is some unknown jazz drummer that will blow our minds.

By the way, I kind of feel bad bringing up the whole SYL thing. I think I was the original one who brought it up. After reading all of your responses, I can definitely see where you are coming from. I can also see how being asked the same question over and over again can get quite frustrating. You are a better man than me for answering the same question over and over. Most people would not take the time out to explain themselves the way you do. I commend you for that. I am just sorry I raised it on this thread. I guess if it weren't me, someone else would have. D'Oh! Don't worry, will never bring it up again.

Whoever you have on your upcoming CDs, I know they will be great. Being a guitarist myself, I don't see myself trying to play the same stuff I played 10 years ago. You get older, more mature, are not in the same mindset as you were before, and your musical influences expand.

Keep on doing what you are doing!

Tomas is amazing of course, I never really thought of him...I wonder if it would fit?

I wonder if he'd even be interested? I know him, but you know, he's pretty busy too.
