What's the line-up? I'm seeing him in St. Paul and was wondering what time I need to show up if DT's the only act I want to catch.

I was there!

This was the shirt I was wearing. As I walked up to the line around 5 pm (yes, that early!), I was greeted by another fan who was wearing a SYL shirt and a Ziltoid hat. Eventually, we spotted around ten or so fans in SYL or Devin shirts. COB appeared to have the most shirts in the crowd, not surprisingly.

The doors opened around 6 pm and then we lined up again for about 75 minutes before they would let us in the sitting area of the theatre. I wonder why they don't just open the doors at 7 pm and then have us wait only 15 minutes. There was no Devin, Obscura or SF merch available then, but after DT performed, all the bands had items for sale. I bought a DT tour t-shirt and the double-cd package of Deconstruction and Ghost. I haven't heard Ghost yet, but Deconstruction is amazingly interesting, after just two listens. It's one of those recordings where you'll want to eventually put some headphones on to hear everything in all its glory and fully appreciate the work Devin put into its production. It also sounds great loud!

I found something to enjoy in the all the bands, beginning with Germany's Obscura. I enjoyed them more live than on record. Septic Flesh were subtle but also quite interesting, as far as symphonic black metal goes. Devin and his band blew me away. He's the reason I bought the ticket and he was very noticeably among the most entertaining performers, metal or otherwise, that I have seen in years. He's an original among an ocean of cookie cutter bands (some of whom I will admit that I like despite their lack of originality.) I recognized a few of the songs in the short 45-minute (or so) set. It will be interesting to see him headline and presumably have even better sound to attempt to re-create the magic of his studio albums. I could have sworn he said something like see you in two months, which sounds like he will be back and hopefully headlining.

His potential to become much more popular than he currently is, is real. The music fans out there just have to give his music a listen. He's not for everyone, but he deserves to be far bigger than he is now.
