Did you see the Devin Townsend Project set at Vera in Groningen?

Please post your reviews, setlists, photos and video links here! (I know I will :) )

Thanks!

He did it again :D
Great show, I am curious how many people were actually there. It felt really crowded (not too crowded though, just cozy :))
The acoustic bit in the beginning was beautiful. I had no clue how late the show began, so I was thinking I had to wait for another hour.
But then Devin came up on stage with a guitar pretty early already.
Beautiful to hear him alone. That man can sing like no one else.

This is the 3th time I've seen Devin, and Anneke as well, and her voice just amazes me every time.
She has some power!

Well, the whole show was great of course, and I really enjoyed hearing some new songs from Deconstruction, especially Sumeria.

It was a great night and worth the 7 hours of being in a car.

I'm pretty happy I was able to fit going to Groningen (yeah, pronounce that one again Dev :P ) into my busy schedule of the past weeks. Fortunately, all of that ended on the day on the show so it was the perfect way to finish that period off. Excellent show, and it was so cool that Dev did a little acoustic thing first. I was standing right in front of the stage, next to some cool German people and another Dutch guy which I met while waiting at the doors before the venue opened. So yeah, Dev all in my face. :P

Acoustic setlist I know because I took a picture of it.

Coast
Terminal
Fall
Solar Winds
Sister
Ih-Ah

Very chilled out, and just a very positive vibe about it, both from Dev as well as the crowd. Then while preparing for the DTP show we got some Ziltoid Radio with much hilarity ensuing. As for the main show, holy shit. Maybe it was the intimacy of the small venue (the last show I visited was 013, Tilburg, which is about 3 times bigger) or me having Dev's balls in my face half the show, but damn that was intense! It's now 2 days after and my neck is still sore from le headbanging and my stomach still hurts from singing along with most lyrics. :) Anyway, excellent tight playing, even on the Deconstruction songs (Stand, Juular AND Sumeria!) which are complex as fuck. Large amounts of kudos all around, but hats off especially to RVP who pretty much nailed Dirk's work on Decon, and Dave who played most of the leads on those songs live. Also does a nice impression of Joe Duplantier I might add. :)

So yeah, blabla, praise all around. I had a great time, and on top of that the price of 15 euros for a show like that is a joke really. The 65 euros for a tank of fuel less so... so I guess it evens out. :P

Setlist was something like:

Addicted (+Anneke)
Supercrush (+Anneke)
Kingdom (+Anneke)
Truth / OM
By Your Command
Deadhead
Disruptr
Stand
Juular
Numbered (+Anneke)
Hyperdrive (+Anneke)
Bad Devil (+Anneke)

Sumeria
Earth Day
Deep Peace
Bender (+Anneke) (once again jumping on stage for this, like in Tilburg a few months ago... fun! :D )

I may add some pictures here later. By the way Sanne, I'm pretty sure I saw you there too, talking to Dave and Dev after the show. I would've said hi, but I'm pretty sure my scent after the show would've knocked out anyone within a 6-foot radius. Consequently, the drive home was no pleasure either, even for me.

At least I made it home before sunrise.

It was once again a great show, probably my favourite of this years devin shows:). I was positively surprised by the acoustic show. The sound the guitar with some nice effects plus devs voice made me very happy. Unfortunately lots of people didn't seem to be very interested in the acoustic songs (or any of the other more quiet pieces of the show) and were chattering a lot during those songs.
The main show was also great. The setlist was not a lot different from the previous shows but that's okay. I liked it better than the original one, this time it was more chaotic. The decon songs were great even at the first listen..
It was well worth the drive :).. The acoustic show alone would have been worth it!!!

Thanks swervedriver, if you hadn't posted that this show was happening i might have missed it.

You're welcome naas. And Sanne, I'm sure there will be future opportunities to meet. :)

I'll just leave these here.

Yeah, another great show. Really happy I went to this one as well (after Utrecht, Vosselaar, Zoetermeer and Tilburg) because of the different set and vibe.
Saw some familiar faces in the audience (from previous shows), which almost makes Devin's audience feel like a community. At least I'm not the only one crazy enough to come to all these shows!

I posted this short message on Dev's Facebook wall, so I'll just repeat it here:
Good lord it's a cheezburger! eh... I mean, another great gig at Groningen tonight! Totally worth the 250km drive. Thanks for all the new stuff in the set: the acoustic first part, the Deconstruction songs. Thanks for the party during Bender! And not to forget: thanks for taking time for your fans and remembering them even when you see a few hundred new faces every day! Come back soon (to or near to the Netherlands)!
-Chris (birthday @ Tilburg gig, Peavey demo room @ Messe)

Cheers!

I'll just leave this here..

My third time of seeing DTP live now. (First in Dynamo, last year, second at De Boerderij about 3 months ago. )(Videos from De Boerderij are on my Youtube account as well.) It was the first time for my girlfriend (in Golzuam's second picture, the white shirt). She loved it and said it was one of the best nights of her life. Quite the compliment for Devy. I surely don't disagree though.

Will go again when (Ziltoid) he comes! I doubt he'll come for a while though, he's going to tour the US and Canada in a few days, after that he's probably doing a festival tour in Europe. Then in November the two shows in England. Hmm now that I think about it, he might just come around before or after the shows in England.. I would like that a lot.

EDIT:

Yeah same here. Maybe next time we should all get ourselves a sign above our head that says "FROM HEVYDEVY FORUMS", so we can do the forum thing in real life. Which I would call rambling about.

We should get T-shirts. With big glowing neon lettering.

Back in the day when I was on the old VHML (Van Halen Mailing List. You know, the days before forums? Damn, I am old), someone made up shirts that those interested could buy, and it was a great way to meet up and find folks at shows. Someone can just make up a CafePress store or something for free, we can vote on designs (non-copyright infringing designs, of course), and just list them for as cheap as possible, if you can't just list them at cost.
