Full set, anyone? I'm curious as to how much Epicloud was actually played. Though, I'd say it's pretty much confirmed my theory of why Dev released the listening party, and why all the VIPs get the album. Dev knows how important it is to know the songs beforehand, so he was doing everything he could to put stuff out there. Hell, we've known Where We Belong since last year, and we've had Lucky Animals for at least a month.

Also, did he seriously play all of Planet of the Apes? AND WAR?!??! Jesus lord man. What is there to complain about?

Set:

More!
Kingdom
Regulator
Planet of the Apes
Where We Belong
War
Lucky Animals
Liberation
Grace

I might be missing one or two.

Honestly. this was the WORST set I've ever listened to from an audio standpoint. And I think there are a few major reasons for this.
A) Studio Seven is a horrible and outdated venue. The house sound guy is not up to speed on how bands run direct, which is quickly becoming a standard. Take a class or two man. Everyone in Seattle talks smack about this venue sounding like garbage, and for good reason.
B) Bevis's bass WAS NEVER TURNED ON IN THE HOUSE MIX. I stood in three different areas trying to figure out why everything sounded like shit, and I realized three songs in there was ZERO bottom end. Zero. When you hear a track like "Liberation" or "Grace" on CD and it's bigger than elephant tits only to see it sound hollow, thin and spineless live...it just sucks the life out of the room. I think a lot of people in the crowd felt this too, because for a Devin crowd, there was a lot of standing around (as to where the October show people were losing their minds)
C) I honestly think either Dev's music is now meant for a bigger stage because running everything direct to a crappy house PA like Studio Seven has with no amps or stage monitors...from dead center in the room you could only hear drums, over distorted backing tracks and something that kind of resembled Devin's voice. It's simply too much frequency, power and sound going to the house. A small club just doesn't cut how massive his sound is. El Corozon back in October kind of suffered from the same problem.
D) The sound check was never done through anything but ear monitors. So how could they tell if anything was lacking in the house mix? Sure the instruments will come through the ear monitors, but that doesn't mean it's gonna sound even or everything will work.

Such is the first night of a tour. Hopefully the problems get ironed out for everyone else. But out of 13 times seeing Devin related projects live, this was the worst experience I've had. At least I got Epicloud on CD now.

War lacked a lot of energy, and died off in the end. As good as the song is, with that ending it doesn't translate very well to a live performance. The three times I've seen him play it, same issue. Plus I think only the die hard fans there even knew the track. (lack of good sound didn't help either)

Zero Ziltoid. No Addicted. No "Truth/OM"I understand you wanna promote the new album, but the set could have used something a little more familiar to bring people in more...not to mention the sound issues I listed above.

Standard and Digipak CD's for Epicloud, and 5 shirts that are on the merch list for Hevydevy.com. Shirts were $20, CD's were $15 and $20.

Wow, the digipak version, huh?

Probably limited. Hopefully it's not sold out by the time it gets to you.

I'm good with that setlist. I know Devin will change at least a few of those by the time he gets to St. Paul (probably War, which is unfortunate). And Station 4 is usually pretty good with sound, so...sucks for you, yay me? Sorry man.

I'm pretty happy with that setlist, although, just for differences sake, it'd be cool to see a different one in Phoenix. Keep Liberation though, dear lord I love that song.

lol yeah it's all good man. Seattle lacks consistent venues for good sound. The Showbox (where the COB/Devin tour stopped) sounded good. But it was still pretty quiet with the whole "direct Fractal" setup. I'm sure they'll get everything ironed out by the time they get out there.

War might stick around. I dunno, that song just doesn't sound as driving as it should when I've seen it live. I'm shocked he's not doing Christeen honestly. Considering that song fits with the Epicloud material.

The emphasis on new material this time is just part of the push to expand Dev's fan base, especially since Epicloud is his most "accessible" material to date. This kind of push works best on a tour like this with multiple bands. It isn't designed for the existing fans for the most part.
