Amazing show with a killer set list as you can see!
It was the first show of the tour, so there were some "bugs" that popped up in the form of technical glitches, sync issues, and perhaps some problems with the gear itself. But it was all handled very well, and the fuck ups actually gave us the opportunity to hear some more witty banter from the Dev.
The band sounded good. I had a little trouble hearing Dev's guitar at times, but my ears might have just been shot from the previous band, Zebulon Pike (Zabuton Mike, as I thought, until I looked it up). They were a real pleasant surprise. They are an instrumental prog band that's kind of a crossover between 70's prog and modern-day crushing heavy metal. Their music features complex guitar interplay and poly-rhythms, lots of dissonance, and dynamics. However, no matter what kind of bizarre shit the guitars are doing, the drums and bass (really heavy bass!) keep everything grounded in a solid groove, regardless of time signature. I'm going to be checking out their shit for sure, and they're also from Minneapolis.
Here are some of my favorite highlights from the DTP show:
1. Regulators. Awesome, amazing. I dunno if they've ever played that before or not, but it sounded so great. Dev's voice was perfect.
2. Bad Devil. So much fun! The crowd went nuts on this one.
3. Juular. Ryan is blasting away on this one. Dave provided some eerie background vocals on Stand and this one as well. The new video for Juular was sync'ed up on the display screen behind Ryan.
4. Vampira. Another fun song that got everyone jumping. Dev tried to do a little bit of the dance from the video, but didn't go too crazy as he didn't want to hurt himself. They had the video for Vampira playing at the same time on the screen as well.
5. Deep Peace. A great closer, despite the big fuck up during the guitar solo which required a complete stoppage of the song and a new guitar. Though I'm not sure if the guitar actually had a problem or if Dev just fucked up the solo and played it off as a gear breakdown! You'll have to watch the video and judge for yourself. Either way, he handled it perfectly. I'm uploading the videos now and will post the links in the videos thread.
6. The break between Juular and the encore was hilarious. I'm not saying anymore because I don't want to spoil it for anyone.
The crowd was good. Everyone was really into it. Mosh pits erupted frequently, which is probably more common at an all ages show I think. And it's all good. At the July show, I was in front of the pit and got knocked around a bit. This time I stayed behind it and could hear the band more clearly.
After the show, I went out and there was a crowd gathered by the tour bus. He came out and, as always, was so appreciative of the fans, and humble and gracious. I got a chance to talk with Dev for a bit and get a quick picture. I didn't have anything for him to sign. He remembered me from the July show and knew my forum name

I went back inside to get ready for the bands coming up that were playing for the Zombie Pub Crawl. I'm friends with the guys in both of those bands that played afterward. I was hanging out with them when I found a pick on the floor, so I went back outside and asked Dev if he would sign it so I could pretend it was his pick. He laughed and said that he could do something better for me. Then he reached in his pocket and gave me one of his picks, so awesome! He is THE coolest.
They said they'd be back soon, and I'll be there once again, no doubt.
Thanks Dev and Co. for a killer time!
