I drove to downtown St. Paul straight from work, parked, and then went to a nice little bar/grill just a couple blocks away from the venue. I had already finished eating and was sipping on a good Belgian beer, when I looked up and saw a bald head mostly obscured by the massive wall of taps that they have on top of the bar. I got up and glanced around the corner, and sure as shit, it was Dev. He didn't have any food in front of him yet, so I thought it might be ok if I went over to say hi. He was super awesome and signed my 7" vinyl (The Calm and The Storm), and I got a pic with him... and was just very very gracious and so nice and polite. He told me to come find him after the show so we could hang out and chat for a bit. I thanked him again and let him be at peace, and went back to where I was sitting on the other side of the bar. A couple other people came by and chatted with him for a bit too, and I think he signed some stuff for them as well. So, of course I was already all jacked up on excitement and nerves... And then a while later, after he finished eating, he came over and talked to me for like 5 minutes... I almost died right then. It was a totally casual conversation about things other than music for the most part. We talked mostly about family and kids, and some of the actual "work" aspects of his work, and also what's enjoyable about his work and how it all comes back to family. It was actually a great two-way conversation. He seemed genuinely very interested in what I had to say, and I probably said some dumb shit. I even showed him my Mercyful Fate and other tattoos. I don't know why...just trying to show that I was old school metal I think. I was just as jittery as I was when I met Bubbles from Trailer Park Boys, and I told him that. He thought it was kinda funny and said he thought that I seemed pretty laid back. I think the beer helped calm the nerves, outwardly at least. Inside, I was a crazy nervous wreck! Then we talked about Trailer Park Boys for a bit too. Then he had to take off to do vocal warm-ups, but before leaving he thanked me again and told me to stop by again after the show. Needless to say, he made me feel great, and our conversation just totally made my night. It was a truly special moment for me and one that I will absolutely never forget. Thank you Dev and thank you @BulldogLowtown!
The show was awesome with intense energy. It was hot as fuck in there. My shirt was completely drenched with sweat. If I'm not mistaken the set was cut short. There was no Juular. But I will be there to witness it next time! As for the sound quality...I can't tell you much...it was loud as fuck. To me it seemed that I could hear everything pretty well. I was trying to keep some women out of harm's way of the mosh pit. My old ass (old in terms of people attending metal concerts) took a beating, but it was all good. Great, great, great energy!!! It seemed like the crowd was really into it, at least from where I was.
I said hi to Dev a couple times after the show...and he was always awesome and gracious, and called me by my name...he kept putting his head down and lunging straight into my chest. I didn't know what to do, so I rubbed his head like The Bushwackers used to do... and then I went outside and talked to RVP for a bit, who is also just a very cool guy, down to earth, chatting with everyone. He signed a poster that I got for the show. I talked to Mike St. Jean for a good while at the Merch booth, what a great dude. He also signed my poster. I was more than happy to replace my completely drenched Ghost shirt with a brand new Decon shirt. For those who don't know, and Dev tweeted this, but Mike St. Jean is manning the Merch booth on this tour, so go say hi.
I met some cool Dev fans too and even an old buddy from high school, they're not on the forums...but, really glad that I met them...they were cool as fuck and I know they had a blast!
After the show I went back to the Bulldog to get some Ziltodia coffee in an effort to try and calm down and gather myself before going home. Didn't help much though!
Fuck, man....Dev and Co. Thanks for making my night...and so much more! See you again soon!
