I kind of wish I hadn't read what Devin said about control issues and being better off accepting not being in control, as that one bit of philosophy has probably colored my listening more than anything else that has been stated so far about the disc.

And yet that bit of coloring is maybe vital to my perception of the record.

It really changed my vision of the album reading what Dev wrote beforehand ...
If I hadn't known it was a 4 albums project, If I hadn't known his vision of Ki, I'm pretty sure I would have been disappointed, cos imo Ki lacks many things to be a perfect Dev album ...
BUT, knowing it was the first part of a whole concept, knowing what it meant, how it was meant, it IS perfect in its own way.

Without reading what Dev wrote, I would have thought "wow, it lacks a song like vampira, it lacks rage, it lacks this and that" after reading what he wrote, I think "WOW, it really is perfect, I can feel what he wanted to do, I can feel chaos coming sometimes, never staying, just telling us it's here, it WILL come out later, but now is the time for Ki, so shut up and listen, calm down, relax, and feel the music"
Now, I just can't wait for the whole set of cd, and as a whole, it will have anything you could ever hope from Dev, each album may be taken solo, like "today I want cool stuff, let's listen to the ambiant albums" "now I want chaos, deconstruction full power !"

The problem might be that one : reviewers may only consider Ki as a single album, not knowing where Dev wants to go, comparing to SYL or heavier stuff, not noticing that the Devin Townsend Project is a whole new thing, with a new meaning. Knowing part of the equation but not the whole thing will be the main problem.
Someone who doesn't especially know earlier Devins works may take that without another thought, and he sure will like it. Someone who knows the whole project and understands it will think as I did, but someone knowing part of Dev stuff but not knowing about the DTP nor the 4 albums thing may not be a good reviewer.

So far I really like it, thank you very much Devin!

Totally agree, I especially love terminal, heaven send, trainfire and Ki, each for different reasons, I won't be able to pick a favorite :p

(and, once again, congratulations on doing such a piece of music, keep doing that and you will definitely do an awesome 4-parts masterpiece)

Tracy doesn't sing on Ki, and I thought neither on Synchestra. The woman on Ki is named Che Dorval.

Devin: I promised to buy the album, but I couldn't stand the temptation of Ki being so close to me on the internet.
Just as it did with many people, I think, Ki has blown me away too! You did it again!
I want to thank you for this... Your music triggers my emotions and almost no other artist can do such a thing...

I WILL still buy Ki when it comes out! And I want to purchase that 8 disc box set!

It's been 2 listens in the past 2 days for me. It goes without saying that this is not enough to form the basis of an opinion on a Dev album (or most albums, to be fair to artists).

With Ki it's going to take even longer, I think. There's so much space in this album. So much room to breathe, to ponder, to anticipate and to reflect.

And so I shall.

This album is a grower. I'm listening to it bunged up with the flu and enjoying it. Not sure what that says about me.

Devy sounds a bit Mike Patton on Disruptr. It even sounds like a Tomahawk song. That is definitely a good thing. And then it gets HEAVY.

Is it weird if I say, I'm so glad for people getting away from porn? :P

It's not weird. It's actually a good thing. Porn can desensitize people to human connection and emotion, and lead a person down the path to selfishness and self-absorption.

I say this because I've been there.

Holy crap. I was thinking the exact same thing. I love that song!

Actually, I'm also one of the sinners who couldn't resist the temptation. But hey... I absolutely love it and I'm definitely going to buy it...and a t-shirt! :patrol:
Plus, I think I know a couple of cats who will enjoy this album. I'll help spread the word, because a world without Devin Townsend would be a pretty shitty place.

I can't wait to chill out on my "fatboy" tonight, listen to the album again with headphones and maybe read a good book.

Ponder away, because it just gets better after every listen. I might be at......20 times, maybe? It is esp. awesome and sounds almost better when I show a friend (that is 3 more people who love Ki!). No bad vibes so far.....

This album hit me like a ton of bricks RIGHT AWAY. I am soooo glad I knew Dev's perspective going into this, because I think I would have hated it otherwise. Knowing this is an appetizer, I cannot imagine what he has in store for us. This is gonna be a good year, but.......how does he plan on topping this when all is said and done? Oh well, guess I will take it all one album at a time....

Speaking of lyrics....are they posted somewhere or something? I am extremely curious about them.......sometimes Dev's voice is a bit unintelligable, but that makes it all the more fun to guess. I want to know what Ki is about, and what all the lyrics are in the "everybody knows" section.

Love it Dev, looking forward to Addicted.......keep it up.
