All I'll say is that this a fucking brave record Devin and kudos to you for having the guts to make it. I love that you've let everything breathe this time instead of crowding stuff out. On my first listen I wasn't sold but like all the best albums its going to be a slow burner. Thank you for the great music.

Parts of it seem to really drag on, while other parts are jaw dropingly amazing and make me wanna just give up with music, for I will never reach that level of awesome. I'm loving the clean guitar, and I think Devin's voice is in the best shape it's ever been in! But just certain parts like "Ain't Never Gonna Win" are just kinda boring and un-necessary, and this is a LONG album! I dunno I'm rambling, I think it's sweet that Devin made this record to please himself and not to make assholes like me happy. I'm sure I'll like it more as time goes on.

I find it rather short actually. but I listen to a lot of progressive. Opeth especially.

The latest EP I put out is only 5 songs and its more than 30 minutes long.

But that being said, I don't feel like when I buy it i'll be getting less than my moneys worth. it feels complete. :)

now that I think about it, It's an hour long so thats about the length of a devin album. I think his shortest is 45 minutes.

But I still love it and I think where it ends is good, It's a four part album series so you don't want to drag part of the story on too long :)

Yeh I think Ki has really hit alot of us at the right time, well I mean for me right now this is the just the kind of album I was needing. Chilled and Introspective music, lovely.

I think the latter half of the album, well the trio of

Trainfire
Lady Helen
Ki

is just quality, those 3 really stand out to me.

What, better than the 3/4 time breakdown in The Fluke?

Although I find that hard to believe, I will concede that if anyone is capable of outdoing that particular piece of music, it's Dev.

As of now, still resisting the urge to download. I want that CD in my hand first... call me old school. Or maybe just old. (Screw you guys, I'm not 40 till next year.)

I'd say the whole last minute of the song Ki is one of the best minutes in music history, with Devs totally epic vocals and loads going on!

Yeah 30 seconds was too short, really the whole crescendo is like, the best build up to the best orgasm ever. I am unable to describe this album in non-orgasmic terms.

I love this album.

I totally agree with people who have stated that it takes guts to make an album like this.

I shall buy it as soon as it's out... oh... and a fucking t-shirt :D

I felt like an absolute bastard downloading it but rest assured I'll buy the piss out of the mega-edition or whatever when it comes out, absolutely.

Dev & crew: this is excellent. I'm a happy camper. You done it

See? Now aren't we all glad Dev took a break? Man, this is totally worth it.

Amen to all saying that this the right music at the right time. For some reason his music, whatever it may be (even SYL) is always exactly what I need at that time. Sometimes I swear he has a key to my brain.......

Music sucks right now....almost all of it, except Dev.....maybe I was wrong and he does deserve to rule the world. I still don't wanna share him with the mallrats tho.

Listening before work right now.....I am thinking this will keep my mood up all day. And you're right, the end of "Ki" is the best 1:00 of music EVER.

Anyone hearing massive Gilmour and Vai influence in his playing?

i got weak, too. so far, i find that the production is the best you ever made. beautiful singing, awesome guitar tone, excellent drum sound (and that was kind of a weak point on your previews records). that it builds up here and there but never really lets it all go is a bit weird when listening to it (for my taste, the title track could have exploded even more), but i guess that makes sense when the other records come out.
coast, trainfire, lady helen and ki were awesome right from the start, i guess the rest needs time to grow. the beginning (after coast) is pretty hard to digest, which is pretty cool as it makes the album say "i don't care if you like me, i know what i'm here for!"
there's some really original and beautifully weird music on this record, and i agree with those who find it a brave record. great thing you put it out! oh, and how much it sounds lik nighttime is awesome. it's incredibly clear and has all the room it needs to fully spread out. most beautiful sound :)
so,

thumbs up man! it would be awesome if you kept that clear, open (more or less uncompressed) sound for the next records.

p.s.: the clear, transparent sound reminds me of the dire straits. anybody share that impression?

AccEvolution wrote:Got the album earlier - It's exactly what I needed. I feel I've become desensitized to the heavy thundering of heavy metuhlz here recently, thus it has grown stale. It's only a phase, I'm sure, but for such a phase I couldn't ask for a better album to listen to.

I was going to write this exact same thought. I downloaded Ki because Dev said it was ok. It's like a pallette cleanser. The production is stellar. A couple people said they didn't like Ain't Never Gonna Win; I thought it was awesome. What a chill funky groove. Very tasty bass playing. Trainfire - I didn't know Dev was a Stray Cats fan. There is so much to this. I've only listened to it once, but I can tell it's going to get better after repeated listenings, like all Dev's stuff. The only bad thing I can think of so far is that I don't think this is a good CD to listen to in the car. Too noisy an environment to hear all the nuances. Which means I have to wait till I get home to listen to it again, dammit.

OceanMachine15 wrote:One thing I do wanna know from anyone, and I'll post it on the next page too. I'm doing the tabs for Ki, and I wanted to know if anyone really even wanted em. If so, what do you want me to tab? I love tabbing Dev's music and I'm pretty good at it. Found an easier (and probably more correct) way of playing Gato too for those who saw my Gato tab. I'll update if anyone wishes.

I have made these tabs and can give them to those who want
Hide Nowhere
Random Analysis
Pixillate
ZTO
By Your Command
Hyperdrive (THE CORRECT ONE)
Planet Smasher
Color Your World
The Greys
Om
Demon League
Bad Devil
Sun/Mud Woman

Gato
Quiet Riot
Life
Bastard
Things Beyond Things
Victim
Material
Devoid
Tiny Tears
Sunset
War
Morwar

Hey if you make tabs, can you make them on powertab or guitar pro? I'm assuming you'll be making them for the C tuning Dev uses but I have a 7 string ibanez with a floating bridge which i refuse to downtune and a 6 string strat with regular gage strings. WHen i see drop tunings, i just move to guitar pro and transpose to a standard tuned 7 String.
