Whoa! My computer messes up for one day and I missed all this??

I'm more of a reader than a poster but lately the excitement has motivated me to participate more.

I joined the group on facebook and invited all the people I think would be interested in your music who have never heard it before.

And an 8 cd box set???

I'm with the pdf file of a poster/flyer idea. That way Dev can have a uniform design and logo that those of us with access to colour printers can punt out as required.

Definately posters to lay around town, but I think the internet is the best way to go. Youtube, facebook and myspace the axis of success.
I requested a finnish national radio "Radio Rock" to play Strapping Young Lad - Shitstorm in honor of Dev coming back with 4 albums.
And the host did play Shitstorm, but didn't tell about the upcoming albums! Guess he didn't believe me. Bummer.

One really crazy option is to release the full album on something like piratebay.org with the websites support (Some bands have done that). I'd say that almost a million people would find the Dev for the first time in weeks. Of course this is something way outta there, but didn't Radiohead release their album first freely over the internet and people could donate money how much they wanted? I think they earned around 9 million dollars like that. Crazy.

Oh well, just tossing ideas around. It's hard to get noticed in this world, sometimes you need more aggressive measures.
Eagerly looking forward!

Anything we're responsible for should be black and white... it'll be a lot cheaper for everybody involved. Don't waste your ink either... go to a copy shop. They also have nice colored paper that stands out.

The Dev wrote:OK guys...getting back into this here...been setting up and moving to do Addicted, I start rehearsals tommorow.

So I looked through the pages and it's incredibly touching...but also intimidating, Reverbnations sight was a stimulus overload, and in terms of street teaming, it's confusing.

Here's my thoughts:

I want to do as much as possible, but theres only so much time in a day...What could I provide you guys? Some free music? Some first run ticket stuff? PDFs of flyers? Stickers? On line concerts?

I'm down with anything man, music is life and the internet is the only way to fly...whatever is a current forum to get the music out there, I'm in.

I have so much to do musically that it's hard for me to do a great job at the promo side, Maybe some of you could be supervisors and I could provide you stuff...I don't know, but I'm open for suggestions, and it would be great to just start it all up this week.

Any thoughts? I'm heading to the studio now, I'll be back tonight...working on the myspace, but it's my first time, and it's a little confusing...I'll get it though...myspace should be really cool in about a week.

myspace.com/devintownsenddtb

Also...

Somebody else has taken myspace.com/devintownsend I contacted hime to ask if I could have it back, but didn't get a reply...is there some sort of protocol? Or am I just out of luck...

What else is there...Facebook, Twitter? I know not such things...

dev

Having supervisors kind of sounds like a good idea.

As for things for us, free music is always awesome! First run tickets would be pretty awesome. Would you be willing to tour the whole USA? Because I know I and a few others here would love for a show here around the Tampa area of Florida. I could get them in on the whole street team deal too.

Just know I'm up for this! If you need so much as a fucking roady to set shit up while on tour, let me know! My current job can shove it to be honest!

Well I manage a mobile phone store so if we get some pdf's going on I'm gonna set up camp at the printer for an afternoon.
We're 3rd gen too so I usually get talkin to people about music on their handsets etc and nearly always end up sending 'em a few tracks to get them started depending on what they're into. I always drop some Dev in there to get his name out.

If you really wanna send out some tracks Dev I could just save them as being "from the forthcoming album .... by Devin Townsend" and there's some voluntary viral promotion.

Then of course there's anywhere that plays or sells music. In my experience the pubs, clubs and independant record stores around my parts are pretty cool with taking flyers and throwing them up where you can see them. I know a few places that'll definately have a poster up and a flyer in every bag. There's one place in particular that pretty much every metal or rock fan in Ireland knows about and I'm reasonably sure they wouldn't mind throwing a few REPLACEs into some bags for a long time customer like myself.

But at the end of the day dude, it's totally your call, whatever you're comfortable with my friend.

Yes, all id ask for is the oppurtunity to see you play live. Honestly, i dont want any free stuff, cause that just means Devs gotta pay for it :P im supposed to be paying HIM lol. As for street teaming, i did it for FF when Archetype came out. i noticed that sticking the flyers in tattoo shops seemed to be pretty effective :)

Good option. I'm just lucky enough to have a colour laser printer. But having something that can be printed in b&w or colour would be a good solution to suit everyone. I'm not suggesting we print out hunners of the things. Only enough to cover the places we know locally that would take them.

Ultimately, using the internet to advertise is going to reach a vastly larger audience and is therefore the main point of attack. But we'll all feel we're doing our own little bit by spreading the word in a more personal way with local coverage on the ground. Even if it is just one flyer in the local music shop window or the college notice board. None of it can hurt anyway.

I'm up for anything and everything with promoting. I've just finished college so I have a surplus of free time which could be spent on this. I mean, everyone seems to think the flyer idea is always good, which could be posted at plenty of places- clubs, stores, bars etc, most stores around here don't mind flyers as much when they aren't plastered all over the place. But I also think that the internet is our best bet. Posting extra bulletins on everyones myspace, without making it seem like spam, would really give people a heads up. Maybe just posting on forums you belong to displaying Dev's new plans. Maybe even having us fans burn sampler cd's and bring them around town, with printable cover art, making it less work for Dev.

Whatever must be done so long as I get to see you live once again. I saw SYL and met you way back, but damnit, I need to see the solo stuff live!

My friend used to run a radio segment for SCAD (Savannah College of Art and Design - Pretty well known) and if he's still doing that, I can certainly try and get some tunes played on that, if you'd like.
