The place to speak about Dev's current projects, and everything yet to come

Hey All,

From reading Dev's twitter posts about his small EP release plans, I couldn't help but think of NIN's last album The Slip.
Reznor's been handing out all sorts of advice in regards to navigating this new musical climate.

I think his free digital release + scarce goods/personalized physical release plan is great, for an artist with his following.

Dev, I think you could do something similar.

How about grabbing a polaroid camera and snapping some pics of you in various costumes (we know you love dress up) or pics of you with gear, or even the old phone up the clacker thang. The thing with polaroids is they are truly one offs. It's a world apart from a massively reproduced photo with a signature. It would be a true Dev relic.

Anyway, just a random idea i had in the shower.

Cheers

This was a fantastic idea. If after DTP there will be another break before the next project appears it could be a good idea to keep the creative juices flowing and the imagination working. I am all for it. THAT I didn't think up in the shower...........

Thinking of Dev while in the shower isn't something I tend to do..

..often.

But yeah, it's a strange time for the music industry in general atm. I can't wait to see what the new phase of it is like - It's probably going to be solely digital distribution, but knowing that the old model will no longer apply is quite interesting.

Regardless of how he handles it, I'll be sure to chuck some money at it to get myself a legit copy one way or another

It'll be really interesting and I have to accept that this is the way the music industry is going, but I'm someone who's always been a sucker for big epic albums to be devoured and explored..a.nd I feel a bit like the music industry is moving completely away from that, which is a shame for me, but then again shaking up the way things are done can always lead to exciting developments so I'll just wait and see :)

I guess the best way to sell physical records these days is to make them interactive. A local band (well, they're getting pretty big here, but they're still from down the road), just released their new album titled "The Riddle", and in the artwork they hid a bunch of numbers, when you re-fold the sleeve, some of them line up. Type them into the address bar on your browser and you've found the secret site! And on there you have to solve riddles to get extra stuff like photos and mp3s. Sounds pretty simple but they sold a CD to me so it worked

That's actually pretty cool. This kind of originality and creative artwork really pay off. I mean, I really didn't like Tool's 10,000 Gays album, but I did buy it just because it has the cool stereoscopic artwork inside.

Then that would make...10000 days gay....wouldn't it?

I'm not up with the whole gayness transference stuff, but i think thats how it would work.

This thread has gone a little bit out of topic in a very sad way...
