The place to speak about Dev's current projects, and everything yet to come

There seem to be proper threads (as much as anything is) for the first three albums so I figured I'd be the one to start the last part of the set. It's already getting mentioned in a few other places so it seems like the right idea to give those comments a home. This isn't to knock or bypass the two epics to come in the middle of the set but more to just give some thinking time to the finale.

It might be three albums away and, at this point, doesn't even have a proper name but it's not that far off in real terms.

Good Idea. I'm really looking forward to this album. It will probably be the most "different" thing Dev has ever done.

I still think it would be cool if he went into the woods and recorded a bunch of airy acoustic jams complete with raw and natural ambience.

He did mention of a project where he, Dave Young and maybe other musicians record jams in various places of "spiritual significance", or something like that. Sounds like an incredible idea to me. Although I don't think he was refering the 4th album, not sure.

anyhoo whatever he does i'm sure it will be a work of pure beauty.

Actually, I've a question for Devin on this subject.

Devin, with this "4th one" being so different from the others how easy has it been to keep a head space for it in amongst doing the first three? It's always interested me when an artist moves between two or three projects at the same time or in quick succession and yet still manages to give each the breathing space they need.

From the opposite angle, I wonder if making it last after the others may help give it a body of albums for it to move on from - maybe it needs a little noise for contrast beforehand to really be given it's legs in tone?

Just curious, you know.......

Yeah, and if it was called that then all the mentions of it in the other threads would actually have been right all along ! :lol:

#2 is barely finished, #3 isn't even started yet, and we're already discussing #4?

If Devin himself is happy to chew the fat about it in other threads then I can't see any reason why not. If anybody is a decent indicator of things on here then I reckon it's most probably going to be the gent himself.

{shrugs}

Ah, screw it. If it's felt this thread is a bad idea then can one of the mods delete it and we'll come back to it later. It was started with good intentions but well, you know how it is sometimes.

Yeah, doing one record paves the way for the next. Ki was so restrained in the technical sides that I wanted to make an over the top technical recording with Addicted. Addicted is so controlled in terms of the focus, (songs for the sake of songs, pleasing melodies etc) that it makes me really want to let it all hang out with deconstruction and make a technical recording that shuns anything traditional (or pleasing in some parts) but the super complicated nature of the first three (Ki even, emotionally) has given me weekends where all I want to do is strum. The fourth album explores the things I loved as a child...'new age' music, reverb, rainy days and melencholy, nature and organic, folky things.

The title seems like it wants to have something to do with Rain.
