I'm posting this publicly before going through appropriate channels, and it's basically just a dirty trick to get board denizens to peer pressure you, Dev.

I'm in pre-production on a feature-length (and relatively & intentionally low-budget) Indie film I've written (and will be directing) called Ponticello.

I'm 32 and when I was 21 I had a breakdown from severe depression and anxiety. Instead of medication, I encountered a man who had started a drug rehab
called Caritas (www.caritas.ca), that (basically) isolates you from the world --read: no contact with the outside world -- for 25 months in a highly structured, but mostly self-directed environment.

I walked in a broken kid, intending to stay a couple of weeks -- I took a look around and thought "what the f*ck am I doing here, with junkies, crack-heads, etc". 25 months later I walked out: it saved my life
and was the best thing that's ever happened to me. And now I'm a damn filmmaker.

Basically Ponticello is semi-autobiographical, about that experience.

What would it take for you to do a soundtrack?

I'm just gauging interest here, we can talk about dollars through proper channels

I do believe it's coming out next year/year after. And Miss Henson is behind it too!

Eventually, what I want to do almost exclusively would be soundtracks.

My reality in terms of money at this point vs. how much time it would take to do a soundtrack is the thing I think. Ultimately, if a company wanted to support me for a year doing nothing but soundtrack work in a way that was comfy, man that would be a dream...

You never know Dev, I don't wanna poison you with a saccharine overdose here but dreams can be realised!
Look at Mr Patton, he's doing all sorts now, soundtracks included. I don't like to compare artists, but I'd say you have just as much talent and passion as that man.

I think DTP could be the moment where those in the 'right places' notice your gift, provided everyone does their bit in spreading the gospel of Ki and so forth.

And OP, congratulations also, I have nothing but admiration for people who can take something negative, something that would potentially stop a lot of weaker-willed individuals in their tracks and use constructively to do wonderful things. I'd love to hear more about Ponticello once it finishes post-production.

I was actually gonna ask this whilst listening to Ki, it just seems like it could belong in a film. All the emotions conveyed in each song are so vibrant and well....obvious. That's what soundtracks are for! To push your emotions in the right direction!

Oh, now wouldn't that be cool?! Who better - given the vast differences in styles and sounds of which Devin is capable? The film sounds really interesting, as does the method used at Caritas. When I first read that Dev was interested in doing soundtracks, it reminded me of Stewart Copeland. My favourite part of the Equalizer was the quirky music he wrote for the show.

To be honest, I've wanted Devin to do a soundtrack since the very first time I heard Infinity.

Dev, have you heard of Bear McCreary? http://www.bearmccreary.com/ he does his own music, but has done loads of stuff for film, and TV and the likes too. I know another fellow guitarist who does his own band stuff, but then hires himself out to play on albums andthings for other people too.

So, I guess it could be an option?

Thanks for the reply, Dev! Unfortunately, I'm not in a position to make that absolute dream happen for you yet (i.e. pay you to just be comfy doing soundtracks for a long stretch), but as soon as I am I'll do my best!

And also, thanks for being open to discussing this project. I will, as I said, go through proper channels when things get a bit closer to 'action-time'. I actually started in film as a composer for film and tv myself, and usually score everything I do myself, but this will be my first feature-length and I figured I'll already be mental with the demands so it might be a wise move, (and a lot of fun, besides) to approach others to do the score.

And then I saw that Mike Patton was starting to do soundtracks. I thought "Who would be my first choice?", and I had to think, given the breadth of your artistic scope, obviously *you*.

And thanks to everyone for the congratulations - Some people who leave Caritas are shy about admitting they were there, but it's never been the case for me. It made me who I am. It's ten years later now, and I still go back to help them out with media stuff, and sometimes just to hang out, as it's good for the guys who are in there now to see someone who has gone through it and come out a marginal success (I use that last word with caution, lol).

I think it's going to be a great little film. When I explain the details of Caritas to people they often think it sounds like a cult, and I can't deny that some of the aspects mirror that (which is why it will be such a compelling story), but of course the difference is that a cult wants you forever for it's own questionable aims and Caritas *expects* you to get the fuck out after two years and go get a life. And ain't no one getting rich off it. Well, except for me, through this film, lmao! The Director of Caritas would kick me in the balls if he read that last part

Oh, and btw, my GF hates you now Dev, 'cuz I've been wandering through the house singing Trainfire for two days straight and won't shut up. Don't take it personally, I think I caught her humming it, too. Muhuwahaha!

Shame its for men only (by the looks of things.) It looks incredicly interesting.

And it was my Mister that got me into Dev, so keep working on it, and you'll convince her.

Amber: Actually, there's a women's program as well called "Mater Dei" - it was started at the same time, with mostly the same principles but it's a *little* different. It's not quite as isolated and is run by a...<cough>... nun.

Caritas was started by a Priest, but there is no religious aspect to it whatsoever. He's a pretty awesome guy: a true intellectual, who's gotten himself in trouble for supporting gay marriage, amongst other things.

And the day my GF puts on a DT album is the day I propose to her. No pressure, lol.

I'd pay someone to do a soundtrack for my life....

Devin doing a soundtrack for a film would be a dream. And he wants to do them too, so I hope we'll see that some day.

Good luck with the film thought_arcade. The idea sounds interesting enough.
