Hey this is my first topic after 3 years of membership :)

anyways sorry if this has been done before but..

With Dev's new projects Thoroughly underway what themes from his backcatologue would you like to see on his new releases. i.e the immense soloing of deep peace, the cross referencing on colour your world of wrong side, the wackyness of Ziltoid or the heavyness of SYL etc etc

p.s i know everyone wants something new and unheard but i thought it would be intereasting to see what you would like dev to bring the musical table from his past works

:D

There's been more cross-reference than that... can't recall the exact song (Pixelate, I think?) from Synchestra, but one of the main riffs in a song on Synchestra became the main riff of Polyphony off of The New Black. And there's always lyrical allusions back and forth.

I'd be rather surprised if there weren't any self-referential bits on the new album, but I have no expectations of Dev other than that it be good. Which isn't exactly a high one, considering everything else he's done has been a lot better than "good." :P

I'd rather Dev write what he has in his heart and mind rather than saying:

"DUDE, I WANT EXTREMELY HEAVY AMBIENT NU-DEATH METAL FROM THE BOWELS OF A TOILET PAPER MONSTER WITH OVER THE TOP PROGRESSIVE RAP INFLUENCE!

THERE MUST BE SCIENTISTS WITH HORNS INSIDE THE GORE LAB OF THE MAN THEY CALLED COTTAGE CHEESE CHUCK BECAUSE HE OWNS A BANJO THAT HAS HUMAN SKIN FOR STRINGS!!

HE CAME FROM A MOUNTAIN WHERE ROCK SAID HELLO TO INDIE POP SLUDGE!!

AND THEN ONE DAY HE FOUND A PENNY ON THE GROUND THAT SAID IT HAD A FOUR SLICER TOASTER WHERE TOADS OF INDUSTRIAL COUNTRY WERE PERFORMED!!"

Actually, Devin better use this post as a reference.

After that last post I feel picky and selfish even mentioning this. But in my perfect world, Dev would create an album with the emotion of Accelerated Evolution (especially the vocals on Storm and Deadhead), the ambient richness and "magic" of Terria, and a vastness created from a mix of the deep sounds of Ocean Machine and the choral overdrive of Infinity, with interwoven moments of softness and beauty (such as in Nobody's Here and Deep Peace), and some of epic brutality (see Dire and Thalamus of Strapping Young Lad fame). Some parts that are more uplifting sounding (Stagnant and Triumph, for example) would not be amiss, nor would an ambient meditative section. But whatever the Dev concocts will certainly be brilliant and beautiful in its own way.

i think it would be cool to see another cross reference. First time I heard color your world, and heard all the references, I was like "Woooaaah"
