The place to speak about Dev's current projects, and everything yet to come

Hey,

You know, I've been a hardcore Dev fan since 1997, and I think I can safely say this is the longest stretch we've ever gone without getting an update on the man. Of course, I realise he's in quite a different place in 2008 than he was in 1997 (family etc..), but even the website hasn't been updated (news-wise) since JULY 2007! I'm not greedy - even a little news about news coming in the future would be better than nothing. I guess I just want to know if Dev is still planning on being musically active. I don't care if he never tours again as long as there are still albums coming. Ziltoid proved that he truly needs no-one (outro of 'Love-Load' anyone?) to make an extraordinary album. And given that I think it's general knowledge that he doesn't particularly like touring, like I said, I'd encourage him to stay home and keep making albums. I guess I'm a little starved of Dev news/music at the moment, and it's more frustrating because I know he's been involved in the production side of things with numerous other groups lately. We've also been pretty spoiled over the years getting albums once a year, sometimes even more than that. Anyway, not trying to put any pressure on the guy, but a snippet of news would be amazing!

Cheers!

Hey man,

Thanks for that! I'd seen one or two of those updates, but not the most recent ones. He does it so covertly, doesn't he? You never know what thread he might respond to, or what he might say in his response. Funny bugger :) Oh well, as cryptic as it is, at least it's news and something to look forward to. Year's end. That's ok. It's been a great start to the year metal-wise with Meshuggah's Obzen, Cavalera Conspiracy, Ascension of the Watchers and another band called Biomechanical with their new album Cannibalised. If any of you are starved of SYL, that album will fill the void, I can assure you. Very, very similar stuff, circa 'Alien'. I can highly recommend it. They have a guitar soloist who rips these psycho leads very similar to Dimebag circa 'Vulgar Display' or Kirk circa 'Master of Puppets'. This has been one of the best starts to a metal year that I can recall, in my opinion. Fantastic stuff. Next up I think is Ministry's cover album!

I have songs...

A Monday
Coast
Disruptr
The Way Home
Lady Helen
Synchronicity Freaks
Gato Negro
Demon Leauge

Thinking very hard...The record may be called 'Ki' or 'Ki-Ra'

It's very different and very special...very strange...very minimal...deeply satisfying and sometimes very heavy in a 'new' way...it may be too dark for some. I've worked on this record more than almost any record I've ever done next to Ocean Machine. Sometimes I think it's brilliant and sometimes it freaks me out.

I have an ambient record in the works as well. (That one is a ways away though...)

Konrad, who did the Hummer and Devlab art is doing this layout and videos and he is doing an AMAZING job.

I might start recording over the holidays.

It will confuse most, and absolutely satisfy some.

It's sober.

talk soon...

Whoa! Thanks Dev for the update! This is great fucking news man. Sounds really, really cool. I love that it sometimes freaks you out. That implies a bit of a loss of control, which I think is a good thing, generally speaking, for creative artists. I got tingles when you referred to Ocean Machine :)

Thanks for this.
