The place to speak about Dev's current projects, and everything yet to come

The DTB never split up. Devin just took a break from it.

Besides, this is a Devin Townsend forum, and The Devin Townsend Band is only one of many many projects by the man. So the forums would still be perfectly valid even if DTB had split up. Which they haven't!

I thought they had pretty much split up.

Following my favourite band who went on hiatus, I know "Never say Never" applies to most bands. With most bands (that are any good at least), the habbit of writing and playing music is just a habbit that can't be kicked.

Bands should never say in a press release it is the end, because they get criticised when they inevitably reform, even if it's only to play a one off date or tour every couple of years. My fave band have been criticised as such, with stupid comments like "I guess they need some money" or "I wonder what they're peddling this time" or shit like that.

Bands should just say they're taking a break for an untdetermined length of time. "Splitting up" or "indeffinite hiatus" gets used too often.

Well I'm perfectly aware of that, but upon hearing the news that DTB and SYL, Devin's two most famous bands have split, even if temporarily, certain people may choose to leave and never come back =P. In which case I am glorifying those who have, on the other hand, chosen to stay.

Is it weird to look on SYL and DTB not as bands per se but rather as particular aspects of songwriting that Devy concentrates on and with a particular set of bandmates? Does that make sense? Maybe?

Yeah. It makes sense. Like a Trent Reznor with multiple personalities.

I believe Devin himself kind of looks at it like that so it wouldn't be weird at all.

Okay, good. I always assumed that was kind of the point, where SYL is about anger and DTB is about finding some pretty cool stuff even amidst some crummery, while the rest of his discography is just random different ideas. But then again, Devy might not actually intend for it to come across that way.

Well, I am pretty sure I am right about SYL either way...

Dev often says to ignore everything he says.

He generally speaks based on how he feels at the time, but it changes and he admits it changes.

So yes, anything is possible.

veteran? haha
I think a lot of people here have been following Devin since he sang with Vai due to his Noisescapes comments at the time.
Some people maybe even since before that.

That's exactly it. Again I wouldn't say the DTB is over at all. We're just taking a break till Devin see's it fit to put the DTB back together again, when he does, we'll all be there!

Thanks for posting Ryan, while we know Dev is taking a break it's nice to hear from the DTB band members. It could be awhile before we see you all back together again but we sure hope it happens!

I've been registered on the forum for many moons... But haven't posted in at least 2 or 3 years.

So long that I'd forgotten what my avatar was... Willow!?!
