The movie "Contact" with Jodie Foster is present on the record. Both some of the main music and voices (ex: "I had no idea...").

How does it work with author's rights when you use samples?
Does Jodie Foster get some royalties?

Maybe Tracy can answer this best, but as far as I know this is not a royalty issue.

Maybe something along the lines of 'fair use' as the sample is not the inspiration for the song nor is it the basis of the song, it is merely present in the song.

I have always wondered about including quotes from other people...

Hmm....errr

I hear some samples that were used on Synchestra...but I think I also hear the choir sample from the end of "Voices in the Fan"...on track 2, maybe? Anyone else pick up on that?

I read somewhere that samples may be used freely as long as they do not exceed a specific length. Dunno where i read that though

It's definitely believable, as research paper's and such quote other people and do not have to give them a cut of the profits. Just citing it that you used it as a sample should be good enough.
