Since I got Beav's answer of Mastodon earlier, I was wondering on you, the publics, ideas.

Discuss!!

Mastodon? Hmmm...
I think their sound (and their fanbase) is a bit too scream-o oriented for the DTB. I could be wrong though.

What about more melodic bands (with the exception of Meshuggah)? I'd figure many listeners of these bands could like Devin's style.

Opeth
Dream Theater
Meshuggah
Nevermore
Amorphis
Katatonia
Anathema
Apocalyptica
Waltari
Tomahawk
Tool
A Perfect Circle
Nine Inch Nails
Tiamat
Type O Negative
The Gathering
New Model Army
Killing Joke
...

And I REALLY want to see The Devin Townsend Band supporting none other than Iron Maiden in 2006! Maiden will release a new album this year and start touring in autumn. I guess most Maiden fans would enjoy the DTB - and Devin & Co. would certainly deserve this massive exposure (DUH).

My 0,02 Euro.

Iron Maiden fans are meant to be ruthless though, screaming "MAIDEN, MAIDEN" over any support band playing. Might not be too fun for the band but I agree, good exposure.

Not at the gigs I've been to. Never. I always got the first-hand impression that the Maiden crowd is pretty fair - and stylistically the DTB would fit IMO (epic, often times proggy melodic metal with operatic vocals, technical guitar playing, a tight rhythm section and keyboards to enhance the soundscape).

But I've never witnessed a band like Funeral For A Friend supporting Maiden. I read on the official Iron Maiden board that this particular support act was not well-received.

Or maybe you just confuse Iron Maiden fans with Slayer fans...

Zero Hour and Tool

my favourite 2 bands going on tour would be cool, and then Tool are there because then lots of people would be exposed to awesome music

Seen Anathema before as support to Porcupine Tree, went to see them instead of PT to be honest...very good band and they outperformed porcupine tree, who bored me live to be honest...a little too over-practiced and stationary.

Very true indeed. I went to the show at the Birmingham NEC. They were given a pretty hostile reception and were booed throughout their set!
Rubbish choice of support band in my opinion.

This would be cool because their music is kinda dark and mellow. and DTB's is more uplifting mellow.

Definately. They were fantastic supporting Rammstein!

Hows about another All In the Family tour with DTB, SYL and Zimmers Hole? :D :D

DTB + Opeth + Pain of Salvation was my biggest wish last year.

I got 2/3 of my wish. Gildenlow is too stubborn to tour in the US because he says our methods of dealing with incoming travellers compromise personal security.
