If it got promotion, if it got airplay, it would sell. Somone in the music business needs to give em a chance. I feel a couple tunes on AE, actually i think 'Life' would of been a huge hit if it had a video in regular rotation.

I had a real feeling at the start of this year that Alien would majorly take off. I mea it was hugely successful and reached a wider, more mainstream audience than before, but I thought it was going to be tne next trend..so I really think you're right, that potential is there

Devin will become the Maynard James Keenan of the metalcore era!

Or something...

They could easily make a huge mark in the mainstream community. Half of Accelerated Evolution were songs that you could make into pretty big singles, Infinity had several, Physicist had several, and of course there's several off of Ocean Machine that come to mind right away. Don't forget even a few songs off of Terria, which is probably the most epic of Dev's work, would make good singles, but then again, you have to have a rich label to pay off the radio stations and MTV/MTV2/VH1 in order to get yourself played.

Isn't there a third option? No?

Okay, then I'll go with "Or something..."

I think most of us here keep on saying that Dev has written quite some tunes which could be hit singles. Christeen for example is poppy, eerie, not that long, and for Devy's standards there even isn't that much screaming going on. But then, there are other bands out there aswell which might (saleswise) be doing quite well, but have songs which could make them even bigger in their fans opinion. Porcupine Tree come to my mind. But... What I'm writing now reminds me of one of their songs, The Sound Of Muzak. When it comes to labels supporting bands, the quality of the music doesn't seem to be the most important thing.

I don't really think Devins music could hit it big time. Maybe I think it's all poppy and catchy, but because I don't listen to popular music very much, I kinda lost the perspective.
When I think a song is nice quiet, mellow and melodic, others often think it's a shitload of noise.

And you'll have to keep in mind that Devins music has a huge sound, heavy riffs, screaming, it's very complex and there's a lot going on. A lot of people don't like that.

I had a friend listen to Nobody's Here and she described it as "boring". So even tho we may think it's interesting and cool, most other people probably don't.

Right, freaks like us are used to it - and love it - by now, but all those samples and the layering can be confusing for someone who's new to Devy's music, and it makes it harder to get into it. I don't see Devin having a hit single in the future, and I'm not sure if I wanted him to have one - but it would be nice to see that he at least makes enough money so that he doesn't have to worry about financial aspects. Some tours are still a risk concerning this aspect. And it's sad to see that happening to such an amazing artist whose music could easily turn so many people into fans... If they just knew about it.

the mainstream is more for the average person who soesent care to search for good music, they just get the music that is shoved in their face.

but id love to see devy have a gazillion times platinum album, he deserves it more than anyone else in the music industry IMO

That'd be sweet if Dev got really popular and everyone starting copying the skullet, even girls.
Hey if trucker hats can become popular, why not?
