The DTB brainstorm thread

So there he is, our hero. Sitting on the sofa, Devy sips a snifter of battery acid cut with a few drops of water to keep his voice clean, quietly pondering what next to unleash upon the world.

He curls his lip and flares a nostril, then plunges a finger deep into his sinus in a dual attempt to stimulate his frontal lobe and to retrieve a rogue booger. He quickly retrieves his finger as Tracy rounds the corner, and plays it cool as she joins him on the sofa, "Hey babe, you still like heavy metal?"

"Not right now Devin, I have a headache." Tracy says, drawing a stray lock of hair behind her ear with an apologetic smile.

"Hrmph." Our hero slumps further into the cushion, draws a little more from the snifter and clears his throat, "so what do you think we should do next?"

"I think we should consult the internet."

"Good idea."

...

So that's where we come in ladies and gentlemen.

Tell us all what your fantastic ideas are for Devy's next project!

Here's my contribution:

A Very Devy Christmas I would love to hear sarcasm like Punky Bruster aimed at the whole Christmas thing. Not sure how far that could go, but as a spare-time thing it would be hilarious to hear a dimented distorted devilish very devy Christmas album

Alchemist In the spirit of the DTB naming scheme, and the theme... completely stripped Devy. Invite Gene over and have him beat on the kitchen table, Devy on an acoustic, sitar, lyre, with arabic & african style rhythms and a "Civilization coming of age" theme ... plague, discovery, war, etc...

Hahahaha! Funny shit.

There's already a well-established band called Alchemist. My one desire is for Devin to do a Funky Bruster or a Country Bruster album! Hahaha. That would be awesome. Rap Dev or Country Dev. Either would be hilarious!

Actually, I would love a rock/metal opera from Devin. That would simply be amazing. Oh...and a Dan Swano/Devin Townsend collabo album.

Damn...apparently I have more than one desire.

Amen to that. Although both guys do pretty well on their own, it would be interesting to hear what they could come up with.
New albums from each camp in 2006, whohoooo!

Ahahaha....I don't think Dev would like that... :)

I'm all for ' A Very Devy Christmas'....I made a similar suggestion on the Opeth message board. :)

An acoustic album would be great, and I read somewhere that Dev would like to make one too.

Also, I'm really looking forward to The Hummer.

And a full-length EKO-like disc would be great.

Mr. Townsend should give Riku Niemi a call, the guy who worked with the finish crossover-heroes Waltari on "Yeah! Yeah! Die! Die! - Death Metal Symphony in Deep C" and on "Evangelicum", in order to compose and record an all-instrumental classical piece of music with him.

As much as the prospect of a collaboration with someone like that (or Patton, or Gildenlow etc etc) I always think that it would be unlikely for something like that to work. When you have two people who are used to being the creative force, I don't know how the practicalities of having them work togther on a project would actually work.

My general viewpoint on the future is that I would leave it up to whatever direction Devin consciously or unconsciously ends up going in. I don't know how much of it he plans...or how much is just that "magical" element of perfection that creeps in, but I have faith enough to think that whatever he does will be right.

Though an acoustic album would be cool...collaboration with Ron Jarzombek (he's willing!)....erm....heck, he can do whatever the hell he wants...if he didn't, I wouldn't love it so much

Best band in Australia! Damn good guys too. Everyone should check them out, there aren't many groups that do psychedelic death-prog

Something like EKO would be nice, but more experimental.

Like Shpongle + Aphex Twin + a little touch of HevyDevy.

Well, I actually just posted this in another thread, but I think it'd be amazing if Steven Wilson and Dev worked on something together. There's talk about SW and Akerfelt working on a project in '06, along with Portnoy...I don't know about you guys, but I think Dev would fit in well with that crowd.
