The place to speak about Dev's current projects, and everything yet to come

I just picked up Ulver's new disc Blood Inside and I'm overwhelmed. This is insanely amazing. Ulver's understanding of atmosphere is unique and their post-Themes albums are all killer. Anyway, I know Devin appreciates this band a lot (anyone know what albums he digs best by the way?) and when listening to the disc there were thick layers with huge colours of atmosphere that evoked the brilliance of Terria to these ears. Not necessarily in a musical context, but strictly speaking in terms of atmosphere, the song "Bonded by Blood" sounds exactly like a Terria leftover with Garm doing a great vocal performance. His range is wide and his voice is expressive.

And for Garm's incredible range, you must give the second song "For the Love of God" a listen. It's so good I don't even know what to say.

Any comments?

Hmm....

I love Ulver (see avatar), but I would never have thought to compare 'Blood Inside' to 'Terria.' They seem very different, since one is all electronic (basically) and one is not. I guess I can see what you mean with the whole "atmosphere," what I describe in Devin's work as "sonic landscaping."

Oh, and it's not "Bonded By Blood," it's "Blinded By Blood" for anyone listening to tracks.

Dunno if this would spark anyone's interest, but Mike Keanelly does a solo on "For The Love Of God," I'm pretty sure that's the track.

The tracks on this album that immediately amazed me were "It Is Not Sound" and "Blinded By Blood."

On the Devin comparison. My image of Devin is always the crazy 150% singer......although I realize he has a lot of softer moments like on Terria. Garm is generally a lot softer and laid back sounding in Ulver. For crazy all out Garm singing, I would listen to his work with Arcturus, on the albums 'La Masquerade Infernale,' and 'The Sham Mirrors.' I love it.

I can see where you are coming from, but not exactly. The two are different entities to me. But both for sure have an incredible sense of atmosphere.
