Not bad, per se, but your tone could possibly suffer from using older strings. I don't know how long one is to use bass strings being a guitar player myself.

It should be ok, you could take them off, boil them and then restring that sucka. I recently did that with a Fender and apparently it's supposed to lengthen the life of the strings, and just get some of the shmootz off - clean em up a bit. But it's no substitute for buying new strings =]
