I wonder this, has Devin heard of a New Zealand (I live there) band named Jakob. Highly regarded internationally, instrumental/soundscapes/ambient band. Sounds as though it could be a good influence for the man on this upcoming album.

Devin, if you read this, if you havent already get into this band. And that goes for everyone who has not heard of them. I promise you all you will be amazed, utterly amazed.

I'll sell you my pubes, if you're interested. I'll shake out all the dandruff first.

Don't. Eventually he'll make you eat your parents.

My pubes have no parents, or dandruff. They're also non-exclusive so first come, first serve.

Yes, hooray for news!! But I did wonder about the 'minimal' reference. Personally I think it may be along the lines of, and I quote the almighty wikipedia....

Many Minimal techno works feature consonant harmony, but most lack functional chord progression, sometimes to the point of seeming atonal. Melodies, when present, are usually short loops of one or two bars, and emphasis is put on creating layers of unique sounds.

Is it just me, or does this strike a chord with alot of the ambient/atmospheric stuff inbetween tracks from every album from Infinity onwards??

Pun intended :)

I think a lot of the ambient stuff in between dev songs are there because they just feel right, make a perfect end to the song, especially on The Fluke for instance.

I'm pretty sure when Dev says "minimal," he means, "stripped down..." like, no keys. No huge piles of gain everywhere. Probably a lot fewer tracks in the mix... I'd guess there'd be fewer vocal tracks especially...

Just a generally more laid-back, easier-to-digest mix, rather than the giant wall of sound we're all so accustomed to...

I could be wrong, but I think that's what he meant by minimal...

Greetings earthlings, I am Bessi from the (not so)distant land of Ice.

Would be very nice to have a quiet contemplative album as I seem to read about here. I wouldn't mind Dev releasing an album every 5 years, no need for rushing into things, let ze inschpiraschion decide. Take it easy bro!

i think a real classic could be in the making if Dev takes abit of time

then again he never releases anything till its perfect

Minimalism in music is a very wide issue, there are many ways of minimalism that doesnt mean, in any way, simplicity. Many King Crimson's songs of the eighties are constructed over a minimalist base, but are very complex songs... anyway, we'll see. Im sure that it will be a deep and interesting travel to dive into Devin's new musical stuff.

Cheers.
