I did some checking and they did use 48 tracks, all analog. Most of the extraneous tracks were used for Josh's ambient background sounds and Kenny's and Pete's feedback sounds. Really, take a listen to that album on headphones while falling asleep and suddenly you'll start hearing all sorts of stuff you didn't realize was there.

Multilayered albums?

Killing Joke's albums "Pandemonium" and "Democracy" spring to mind.

Oh yes, and LARD's "They're Coming To Take Me Away" from "The Last Temptation Of Reid" Heehee-haahaa!

I'm probably wrong, but I'll add The Young Gods's Only Heaven, TV Sky and L'eau Rouge anyways

I can think of some similar in groove, or in message, but nothing similar in terms of audio depth, amazing. Its unlike anything else.

But what Dev's done is inspire all of us, and if some of us use what we've learnt, there will be much more HUGE sounds.

Cool pick - I'm really beginning to get behind their music. I also have their new one. Never heard their debut though. Pretty cool stuff.

Catch Without Arms is a really good album, and has some beautiful songs. I dont feel it is quite the same beast as El Cielo though and a bit more straightforward in its approach.

The debut is good too, but they have really improved since then. The vocals are very weak compared to the later efforts and the production also is not so good. Probably what you would expect with a debut!

The Gathering - Souveneirs

Not as layered as Terria, but there's a lot of different stuff going on there. I usually hear something different in each song when I listen with headphones.
