You are too modest. How was it to work with Steve Vai again? Do you still keep in touch?

Oh yeah, Steve's a great friend and I really like him. He's a great guitarplayer and it was a real honour to have him on the record. You know, I spent a lot of years kind of coming away from the Vai project. Needing to shake it off to a certain extent and now that I've done that, I feel really confident that my relationship with him is cool. And there's a good chance that in the future we'll be doing a lot together so, I'm looking forward to it.

Yeah, you were going to sing on his next record, right?

I hope so. We'll see.

that would be so cool!

Seconded!

Sex&Religion worked damn well.
Vai + Townsend is the combination of all time.
Gotta respect those geniuses.

[Accidentally quoted a reeaallly old message )

Sadly, I haven't bumped into any interviews lately,
so it would be nice to see some new ones.
And I don't get to see these fancy foreign music magazines,
I have no idea what's going on outside Finland

Now this post doesn't make sense anymore.
But Still my bleeding heart is such a lovely song.

(it has been a loooooong looong day @ work today, i blame that)

I have a question about this interview http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uLBDaBZndP4

is that guy just a douche or is devin down in the dumps? isnt that like when SYL came out and after AE?

when he made the video for storm he seemed so happy or at least to me

i think us at the forum should make a stickam group or something maybe to see you work on your new material there dev i think that would be cool

2003 was a pretty bleak year...

Dude, I still want to sign your disks...give me a bit to get you an address, we've just gotten a new P.O box and it's not ready yet.

Dev man, I must say, of all the musicians I've met. Of all the "famous" people out there. Of any one I've met who is in the public eye...You take the cake for being the coolest. Any musician who actually says "send me your CD's, I'll sign them and give them back" is truly a person who will have fans behind them for life.

Dont take this as a suck up post, because it's not. I'm simply trying to say "thank you" for being like you are to us. We couldn't and wouldn't have expected you to be so open and talkative with us. Typically musicians in your position are very anti-social, only talk to the interviewers/media, and just blow fans off.

So I think I speak for everyone when I say again; Thank you Dev!

If I recall correctly, that interview was done on the first night of the North American SYL tour in support of the feather CD in January of 2003 (before the CD was release and a few months before AE)...The interview was done in Houston. It was very cold outside. Devin appeared very tired, I was definitely tired after driving straight there after work from Louisiana, and right before we did the interview, we had an issue with the lights on the camera (thus explaining the murky lighting of the interview haha). Not to mention the fact that I was interviewing my favorite musician...It was a bit nerve wracking at the time. The interview itself aired on a TV show I did back in 2003. It was designed to introduce people to Devin, as most of the people watching that show would have had pretty much no idea who he was. It was also one of the very first things I ever edited for TV..It's funny to me that the interview has lived on in youtube land! And for the record, Dev was very nice that day!
