The 18 year old Dev can't time travel man. lol.

You don't need to tour the world ala Poison to enjoy making music, and even making aggressive music at that. Being a rockstar, living the rockstar life, I'm sorry to say, but it SUCKS. When I was 22 I got the chance to be in a small band, and tour in a van and even though the touring part was a great experience, I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. You wake up smelling 5 other people's feet, no one is clean, the clubs are garbage when you're small, you get zero respect from anyone, you're broke, you eat crappy food, you're either always drunk or around drunk people and you have zero privacy. Unless you have a big badass tour bus, it blows. Getting to play CBGBs is something I'll always cherish but honestly, some people just aren't cut out for it. And then you come back to either no job, or behind at work with a giant stack of bills. Unless your parents fund your tour expenses, then you're just a brat going on a mommy/daddy funded road trip.

I remember reading when Dev said he was tired of the industry, and the touring and being away from his family. I didn't blame him at all. He has a wife, a new kid and a badass home studio. Why would he ever wanna be away from that? Shit, I wouldn't. I'd rather stay home and write. Dev is in the position any musician should wanna be in. He's able to do what he wants and control the projects he tackles, he can play shows whenever he feels like it or if he doesn't want to....he can spend time watching watching his kid grow up and STILL make music he loves to make.

And personally, from a fan stand point...I would rather Dev progress into the musician he is, making big heavy epic shit, than be 40 and trying to relive his youth....Slayer anyone? They're 45, still trying to sing about evil shit wearing spiked armbands. I couldn't think of something more gay than that. lol.

Quoted for truth. Well put, man. Regular day jobs suck, but living an artists life also brings its own letdowns with it, mainly because it's simply not appreciated. maybe the artists' urge to live their "dream" against all odds has led to a state where they aren't paid and respected reasonably because they always seem to be around anyway. Hell, I'd say there is too little respect for any kind of work. why is it normal to make so much compromise? to throw away half your life for some companies' ideas, or work your ass off to just barely survive? We should change that.

It's just the easiest way to meet the demands of society. There have always been people who were passionate and talented enough to do what they wanted and be successful at it, but those people probably couldn't do what they wanted without others sacrificing themselves for the good of the system.

I think anything you're passionate about can't come without some kind of sacrifice. TIme spent not socializing and getting girls growing up in order to practice sweep picking, working crap teenage jobs to buy our first real guitar, working overtime to pay for studio time, etc.... I think we've all been there and still do it now.

I think the trick to finding a balance (until Interscope comes along and gives you a fat check to write crappy emo-post punk) is working a day job you don't mind or enjoy in order to help pay for the things you love I think is the way to go. It's hard to find, but I think us musicians are probably multi-talented and can be good and creative at many things. For example, I work for a giant megacorp. It isn't the greatest thing since sliced bread, but I get to create the monthly newsletter and other programs for new employees, so the job allows me to contribute my ideas and break up the stagnent feel of my day....

plus think of it this way....working a day job takes up you day, but it keeps you into a system that can keep you mad, keep you frustrated...personally, I write music better when I've had a crappy day at work and it makes me utilize my time after work better...the weeks I day a few vacation days and plan to write music I end up cleaning my house all day lol...give me 2 hours after work and I complete more. The system sucks and we're stuck in it, in some shape or form, but if everything was perfect, and there was no system, and no one had any reason what so ever to be pissed or disgruntled about anything, metal would be gay and bouncy all the time. And I'm even sure guys like Dev have their bad days or off days and it can be soothed by picking up the axe and laying down some nasty 7-string chug and a scream or two....

Um... Judge much? Slayer are untouchable. Being 45 and better than they were when they were younger is a feat in itself. So Kerry wears an armband... you have a cartoon for an avatar. You see how rediculous that is? Who gives a fuck what anyone else does? Questioning guys who have been masters at their craft for more than 2 decades shows your ignorance, not their gayness.

Wow...really? Ya went there huh? Dude, you didn't invent Slayer. Stop taking it (life, Slayer, my post) so seriously. Really. You're gonna give yourself an ulcer or something. Hey, Dev made an alien puppet. How ridiculous is that? People do what they do, and someone, anyone, you, me, someone is gonna have some kind of an opinion. Go get laid, eat some ice cream and deal with it. I never questioned Slayer's wonderful legacy, I questioned them being 45 and still trying to be 25. Big difference. Hope the posters on your wall didn't take offense. lol Jeez....if so pat Mr. King on the head and tell him that he can cuddle up with my gay-ass avatar lol. Some people......

Even the Almighty Dev said there's something ridiculous about grown men grunting on stage. Hint hint.

having been a metalhead for nearly 20 years, i will shed a tear when slayer hang up their armbands and call it quits. call me old fashioned or whatever but slayer are better than most current metal bands.

Those pics are awesome, is that mike/dave young from dtb on keyboards and duris on drums. Whos the bassist, quite interested to see if these guys play on the Ki record, I know Duris is on drums.

Plus, Devs lack of hair is kinda remeniscent of the Infinity era, friggin awesome. there must be footage of this though.
