Drummers have to use all four limbs, guitarists merely two. And what do they use them for? Wankery!
Bastards...

Drug = any substance that produces a physiological response on the body. (defn from Mosby's medical dictionary).

I'm studying psychology and I've learned that a drug is a substance that produces physiological responses and is ILLEGAL :o. I don't think my book has a good definition, since laws can vary.

So by that definition, the drugs that you buy at the drugstore must be illegal...

Remember that cocaine and heroin were legal at one time. Were they not drugs back then? People take drugs every day, even give drugs to their kids on a regular basis. Depression, anxiety, hyperactivity, headaches, insomnia, you name it. People who say that they don't take drugs are full of shit most of the time.

As far as smokin' and playing drums, I don't do that, I'm a friggin' nightmare on the drums if I do. I don't know how Dev did it for so many years !!!! Now he's clean and doesn't smoke.... good for him, I'm proud of the guy. I think Dave, Brian and I have picked up his slack though

My 2 cents !!!!

This has always been something I just can't get. First you praise pot to the heavens and then you say you are proud of Devin because he quit? Why does everyone say that?

Everybody picks his own poison. Poison is the cure. It's hard to renounce a handy cure and do it all yourself. That's what Ryan respects I believe. He also specified when - for him - pot is great and when absolutely is not, while Devin managed to do it with and manages to do it without it.

because devin decided to do something (or in this case, decided to STOP doing something) and then he succeeded. regardless of what exactly it is, you're always proud of a buddy when they put their mind to something and succeed in it.

You nailed it on the head bro !!!!

I'm proud of Devin cuz he was a fuckin' chronic man !!!! In the end weed was'nt the best thing overall for Dev, not for me, for Dev. I'm extremely proud that he gave it up and I support him big time cuz it was the right choice for HIM. As far as weed goes, do I think it's bad ? Hell no !!! Just my opinion. For me there is a time and a place, I don't smoke everyday or even every week, I just smoke when I feel like it and when I want to chill and relax. I think they should make alcohol illegal before pot cuz there is a lot more shit stirred with drinking and getting drunk than there is when smoking weed and that is a fuckin' fact !

My 2 cents....

All the best,

Yeah, that can't be right. Caffeine is a drug....not illegal though. Or alcohol would have not been a drug prior to prohibition, then a drug during prohibition, then not a drug again after it ended. lol

A drug is defined purely by it's physiologiocal response on the body.....not by any attempts at sanctioning by the executive government.

And like you said....laws vary. Canabis is legal in AMsterdam, but not Australia...,you'd still have to call it a drug in both places I'd say!

Most of us say that because as much as we love weed, we know that smoking it every day can't be good, and quitting cold-turkey after smoking for 10-15 years can be hard as hell. No one wants to admit that they are addicted to weed, which you must do if you are serious about quitting...

Being military, I can't imbibe in the greenery. So, in order to get to a heightened state of mind, I tend to put on the headphones, sit on my bed and stare at a spot until I get that tunnel-vision thing going, and then let my senses kind of stop interefering. (I stop paying attention to smells, tactile feeling. As much as possible, anyway.) Then, I sort of "trip out" to the music. Not the same thing, and hard to do, but it's the only way I can do it. I find that the focus on the music is much clearer, and the emotions carry through easier. I could be wrong.

No, when you say that this is the way it works for you, then you actually can't be wrong. At least no one here could prove the opposite.

I also don't smoke pot, and that's why I had trouble seeing things from Ryan's point of view when it came to being proud of Dev quitting weed while Ryan himself still enjoys a joint here and there. If he had written about drinking, I maybe would have had less problems connecting with his view. But when I think about it without focusing on my own attitude towards weed in the first place - which isn't a natural thing to do - I can absolutely understand what you mean, Ryan. And it's no longer a contradiction to me. What I'd really like to know: Do you think that the fact that Dev quit smoking pot had an influence on the music he writes? Or, in other (not so serious) words: Did you "hear the weed" in Dev's previous records?

I can tell you that it had an influence on his vocal abilities. I saw him live with DTB after he quit, and it was his best performance hands-down. I talked to Ryan after the show, and he attributed it directly to Dev quitting...

Quitting weed really helped Dev's voice in my opinion, I think whether he's on weed or not, he'll always write the amazing music that he does. I think weed definitely had an impact on his writing but I really don't think it played a major role on his songwriting.

The guy is just a freak of nature when it comes to his songwriting and many talents and I think smoking pot just enhanced his visions from time to time. I've heard the entire Ziltoid album, he did'nt smoke a thing for that and that is a really fucked up (ideas are amazing and out there) but very cool album and it just goes to show that he's naturally a talented dude with or without the weed....

Just my opinion and view on the topic....
