Earth Day is my favourite song all time and I think one of the reasons is that the vocal performance and variety is just fantastic! The warm, deep sound in the verses, and than the screams and grunts during the chorus... Beautiful...

I gotta agree with 'Bring on the Young' for a versitile vocal performance, but if I'm showing someone who's new to Dev's stuff Earth Day is a good one (it's the first one I heard) then quickly followed by Happy Camper!!!!

Great overall vocals in Storm (highly agree with everyone here)

Aw man, stole my answer.

Definitely either Processional or Storm.

i was just listening to Judgement yesterday and i realized that its a really good song to showcase just about every aspect of Dev. Pretty much the only thing it doesnt have is a wicked solo, but the end music is a good replacement. Definately one of my fave overall songs of Dev's

I'd say a whole album. Maybe ocean machine. If the guy you are recommending Devin has not enough patience to sit through an album you can pretty much give up all hope.

I had a friend like that. I asked him to listen to Funeral, and he couldn't even sit through the first minute. :|

For shame! Why do so many people do that? Even if they can't stand the song, can't they show common courtesy and listen for a couple minutes anyways? I sit through lots of shit, because it's the polite thing to do. However, I'm sure there are some exceptions, but in most cases it it's not that hard.

A friend of mine couldn't sit through Christeen. I showed her on youtube, and before we hit two minutes, she said something about how it reminded her of a different song and just had to show me. And I really thought she'd like it too... bitch. :chain:

a lot depends on the generation. A lot of people really do hear noise. One's ear needs tuning. Metallica needs a tuned ear but devy makes Metallica sound like CCR. Sometimes circumstance allows people a short cut. Devy music puts arms around those who need it.

Kingdom - brutal god forsaken love of all that is true (remix it?) maybe. It reminds me of sleep paralysis. The horror of extra terrestrial life on a starship landing in your back yard. Spielberg. They love you and your pain.

Deep Peace - the easiest way to peoples hearts. they're moved even if they don't know what concept art is. It's about mercy for me. play it for people who feel like they've failed today.

Life - a bright light like the invention of television - for all those who are cursed with visual hallucination to musical stimulation. I put it on our music server at work and 4 years later people sing along and love it but don't know who does it. Sometimes I gloat. Invite people into the church of devin townsend.

In my dreams with you - sex & religion (light without heat) was a glorious period of time (I saw it live), sex was new for me and I was very young and life burnt 24 hours a day even if sometimes I needed to sleep. The synths on this record date it for me and those who were there with me in my world. Play this to people who push 40. It's a wonderful record for me.

True dat. There's just no excuse though for people of my age or thereabouts, who also like most of the same music as I do, to not like Townsend! :D
Sacrilege.

To each their own ... I guess. Phooey.

Actually my penis is a relatively small 650 odd posts! And anyway I was contributing to the thread in MUSICAL FORM! I was writing all that as fast as I could while listening to Hide Nowhere!

That song is seriously something. I never get tired of it. In fact, all of Ocean Machine: Biomech is timeless.

Still My Bleeding Heart from Sex & Religion has always been my favorite Dev vox.

Same! And all Dev´s vocals on that album are absolutely amazing. Particulary I like also the vocals in "Death of Music".
