Haha, perms. For some reason I imagine Richard Simmons with a blunt in his hand.

It's great to hear the music and yourself is coming along strong.

Whoever said being a father doesnt mean you cant rock out? Usually i find that its hard to relate to people when you havent got much in common with them so perhaps its the weed thing or maybe because you havent been touring or maybe they dont understand where you are coming from on the whole no SYL or DTB etc, It must seem weird to people who have been doing that kind of thing all their lives to imagine what life would be like without it, it must have been a big step for you...
I am an athelete and compete in competitions and i find that when i am nervous ill either talk like mad to everyone who will listen or if i feel slightly vunerable i shut off and focus on what i have to do. The whole father thing, obviously i cant relate because im too young to be thinking about having kids but all i know is that when your kid grows up the he will be very proud of you and what you have acomplished and what you will still do.

Well done on your first show in such a long time, its a big step :)

Namm was brutal. We were snowed in here in Vancouver and had a total of 3 rehearsals for the show. I met tons of folks from my past that very obviously didn't want me in the 'club' anymore. It was 2 days that felt like a week. Fucking punishing.

The show was not the best thing I've done, nor did it represent the tunes super well. While I was on stage all I could think was 'my god...I'm a dad. What the hell am I doing up here?'

That's pretty incredible how we can see how you're changing. You're totally different Dev than the dude we've seen here at the beginnings of the forums (must be that dreadful maturity thing). Of course I don't want to judge anything since I know fuck all, I just wanted to note that's pretty much most unique thing I've seen on the internet, imagine, your favourite musician instead of just dropping shreds of promotional info shows you progress of his inner development. You're seriously one of a kind (hope you'll excuse that small personal observation).

Anyway, hope your personal relations will get sorted, that sounded kinda bitter. And that someone had camera on your NAMMs gig :)

Hey, this is actually my first post here, but been reading for a while....

Was turned onto your music Dev just about exactly 3 years ago... Knew about your work for ages but somehow had never gotten round to checking out 'til start of 2006 while I was living in Finland for a year. First tune was Gaia, from the website. It shook me to the core. I couldn't bring myself to listen to anything else at all for days, the only thing I was tempted to listen to was some kind of 'deep' symphony (like Gorecki's 3rd), everything else seemed too trite. From that moment I 'got it', that lush vibe that is so distinctively 'Devin'.

Probably like many others here I'm an aspiring bedroom musician, and you rank right up there among my most important inspirations, I thank you for your priceless contributions in an oversaturated music marketplace. Oh, and Ziltoid is pure unfettered genius by the way!

Just felt like I had to say something in response to the shitty NAMM experience!

Really really intrigued and excited to hear Ki as and when it's ready... all in good time, it will be so worth the wait.

Cheers

P.S. i'll probably write very few posts cos I'm not that kind of computer user, but I check this forum every day

Sorry about the underwhelming NAMM experience. I can imagine how depressing it must have been to hang out with those shallow wannabe rockstars; that's not really a thing you want to be associated with.
But fuck it... it was just one show. You're happy about the record, we're all DYING to hear it and you've got a cool company (Peavey) behind your back..and most important of all: you've got your own beautiful family.

Keep your head up, Dev! Looking forward to see what gear you're putting up for sale btw.

Peace

Dev, I'm glad you went and killed it.

Honestly though dude, I wouldn't worry about the assholes and their "achievements."

These are the kind of guys that are grasping to straws of days long passed.

I've been looking at all these namm show clips on youtube in hope for some live footage. The vibe seems pretty horrible. Just a loada guys saying Look at me and then a loada other guys wondering when can I get the helloutta here. Thanks for the insight into the mind of Devdom. I have a similar story. Today an old friend told me I completely ignored him on the street a while back. He even tapped me on the shoulder and looked me right in the eye. I didn't recognise him and just assumed he was looking for money so I kept my tunes a playin' and walked on. For the last 2 months the guy must've thought I was the worlds biggest A holio!

This is the most true thing I've heard in a while - it's unfortunate that NAMM is *shudder* down there... in southern California. I think there's a reason that SoCal has floods, fires, Earthquakes - everything but volcanos; because it SUCKS, that's why.

Anyways, even if it wasn't a blast - sounds like you got something out of it on a personal level, eh?! That's what counts. Wish I could've seen it! Best of luck!

Nice to hear from ya dev,

Sorry to hear NAMM wasn't the best experience, people can really suck sometimes.

It's at times like this, that I remember the words of a great man:

"Who are you? What are you doing in my house?! Why are you wearing my clothes?"

I think we can all learn a little something from that.

Man, you don't need to be part of the "ilk", or else you'd be making crappy music, and not enjoying it. You're doing what you do cause you like it ah'mright? If it means you don't get covered in wimmins wanting to plunge into your Y-Fronts, or your stuff being played on iPod adverts, who cares? I buy your CDs because I like your music, not cause I saw you on the front of Kerrang magazine rubbing up against Cristina Scabbia in skinny skinny jeans. (Did that entire paragraph sound uberlame?) Anyways, looking forward to the new stuff. I see you're a Dark Crystal fan! Two of my tutors made some of the puppets on there, I think the landstriders (I forgot what else, I was too busy telling them how cool they are), amazing film.
