Check out The Cardiacs...unbelievable that they are so obscure, it's hard to get your mind around the brilliance actually.

Nice, I'm glad to see people writing/directing their own stuff independently. I'm also in film school/write stuff on the side and know exactly where you are coming.

Where are you going to be shooting it?

On a side note yet simi-related to the overall topic: Devin, your music helps inspire me greatly when I write my screenplays. The feel and vibe is amazing and helps me keep going.

@Dev: indeed, the Cardiacs are incredible, especially Sing To God. I've been listening to them since i was about 9 years old, still do on some occasions.
Heaven Born and Ever Bright is my other favorite album by them, well worth a listen.

Elfman is crazy good, Oingo Boingo was crazy good.

devin, you just made my year. i posted on a thread awhile back on suggestions for collaborations with you, and i said danny elfman. actually i was talking with one of my friends about if that were to happen, and this is how i phrased it: "it would be so awesome it would be boner-inducing. women across the world would grow a penis and sprout a boner it would be so good."

but that's just my opinion. oingo boingo is in a 6 way tie for my favorite all time bands (obviously you're a part of that too).
even non film scoring. get a hold of him and write a song or something. i know i'd shit my pants.

I just checked them out on youtube... huh? It's most likely the craziest thing I've ever heard. You have very eclectic taste. I wouldn't even know how to find stuff like this!

Good man! The Cardiacs are fabulous, I've seen them in London before. Never heard any full records though :(

Strangely enough, I was introduced to them by my incredibly posh grammar-school English teacher; he's about 50 and dresses like an incredibly posh grammar-school English teacher, yet loves three key things: The Cardiacs, The Toxic Avenger, and one Devin Townsend :P

It's not often someone recommends a band I haven't heard of - and even more, they're awesome!

Shee-oot, Cardiacs! Where have they been all my life?

And for the Boingo fans, did you stay on board for the 1994 "Boingo" release? Many fans didn't like it as it was a bit too "alt-rock" as opposed to new Wave/High Life/Evil Clown music, but it has some great tracks: "Lost like This" is probably the "heaviest" Oingo Boingo song ever (and one of my favourites). Insanity is definitely an instant classic and probably the first time Danny's "rock" stuff sounded DIRECTLY influenced by his soundtracks.

Cardiacs are great, major influence on Oceansize too. Their singer had a stroke recently, ironically enough.

While Ponticello will not be that per se, I am in the final stages of writing the final draft of the script, and I have to admit that "Ki" has been an enormous influence. It's all I've been listening to through the final writing process (and the local classical radio station, I admit).

I don't know if I will be able to meet Dev's (deserved) price for a score when it comes time for that (although I've decided to shoot on Red instead of 35mm which cuts the budget by an ENORMOUS amount and will free up cash), but no matter what. I'm going to want to license "Ki" (the track) for the end (and no matter what, I should be able to afford THAT). There is no dialogue in the final 7 or so minutes of the film, and I've written it with "Ki" in mind.

At this point I cannot separate the final scene from Ki, so I'd better have the money, lol.
