Hey devin, I was also wondering how you got into the producing aspect of music?...I'm about to go to college for music theory and I plan on making my own music for the rest of my life but i would also like to be a producer for my own material and produce other people's music as a means of income (just in case i'm not making any money with my own material  )...And when I say producing, I mean mixing the music, mastering it, and helping a band promote their record. Did you take courses or something on that or can you learn from producing by just learning by trial and error?

Thanks Dev for the reply.

For those who didn't notice what I stated in the question. . .there were no ill intentions.
I wouldn't think of asking Devin or anyone of his stature such a question upon approaching them, or anything like that.
It's too much to digest and arguably rude. But this is a forum, and felt the question being posted is something Devin could let simmer and reply, if he so wished to.

I will say that I've met and worked alongside dozens of musicians (many good, some phenomenal, some just a waste of oxygen) who never were able to live comfortably throughout their musical careers. Some had breaks, and didn't take advantage of them. Some assumed that signing a record contract made them superstars when in fact it nailed their coffin. Some who had successful careers still moonlighted in something completely different. Look at Bruce Dickenson...Talk about an unusual, but cool backup plan. I just wanted to know if my musical hero had felt he'd been given back what he's put in.

On the flipside, it depends on which part of the world you work as well. I've had this discussion with Marten and Tomas of Meshuggah. Surprisingly, they themselves felt they were extremely lazy and could afford to be, thanks to Sweden. Despite their godly talent and the magic they put to disc, they could be couch potatoes if they so desired.

Devin is a rare example of a musician who has musical vision, musical capital and the close-knit resources to put that vision into our hands unfiltered. I think it is fascinating that whether it be by will, or by need, he hits one out of the park every single time.

I always wish Devin, his family and friends the best of health and wealth- be it financial or otherwise.

I'm still month to month in all honesty...

It's cool though...I have what I need to do what I need to do, I've never been good with money.

Maybe somewhere down the line,.

Dude.. I hope you have a huge mansion in Canada..

...Sign... If such a talanted artist as you don't get "the big moneyz" then I don't see the fairness in the music industri..

!You should make a quick R'n'B album to cash in a few millions!

Devin, i think you should make a movie. It would be the funniest, most fucked up movie ever! The best! :D Then obviously you could make the soundtrack. You certainly are creative and talented enough for such an endeavor
