I would have been the person that I am today at eleven, I would have had the ideas I have now at a much younger age. I've listened to Dev during the high points and the low points of the last year. I've spent hours lying just letting the music wash over me. It's this incomprehensible feeling I don't get listening to any other music. There's just this 'Wall of Sound' style to it that distinguishes it from anything else I've ever heard. I don't think anything will ever top Dev and SYL for Prexy.

True that. I hate it when these emo kids hear two clean telecasters strumming some jangly open chord and they call it a "wall of guitars." Oh my God does that piss me off. Dev's stuff, that's a wall of guitars and that's how they should be recorded.

Welcome dude! An interesting story about your discovery. Now isn't it quite strange how this is (probably) the only forum where people make discovering the Dev sound like a life-changing experience? Probably because it is for a lot of people. It's just so fascinating how I only ever see this happen with Devin's music, and no one elses.

Howdy folks....

I'm new here...first post.

I've only recently discovered Devin Townsend (although I enjoyed his singing on Vai's Sex and Religion some time back when it came out).

I think he's an enormous talent, and delivers everything with absolute command and commitment.

I've only got Terria and Ocean machine (and City by SYL).....but it's enough to convince me that I'm going to be getting it all eventually.

Apart from his excellent playing and singing and compositions, I'm in awe of his production standards....his is the new benchmark for my money.

I'm not sure how many 40 year olds there are who get off to SYL and Devin.....but I'm one of them, and proud of it.

So, hello to everyone, and hope to talk to you all soon.

PS: A bit about me....I live in Australia, I've been playing guitar for, um, about 27 years, and love all sorts of music, mainly prog, fusion and jazz, though i often go back to my roots and play loud heavy stuff.

I do record music, though these days it mainly ambient soundscapes with bits of guitar in it. I was surprised and impressed that Devin has also done ambient music....it's a huge field and quite challenging I find. (And it beats having to keep up to scratch with sweeps, taps, etc etc!!)

If anyone is interested, you can download a free album of mine at this page to listen to: it's great for late nights, sleeping, coming down, thinking, driving througha rainly city at night, etc.....

Here's the link: http://monocromatica.com/netlabel/releases/tube060.htm

Of course, I didn't join just to spam you all with my stuff...I'm here for Devins music and those who love it. If any of you live in Brissy, let me know!
