Holy crap, this album is awesome. Even the short songs rock.

Let It Roll, Hypergeek, Mental Tan and Sunset are awesome meotional short pieces. Triumph, Pixellate, Gaia, and Notes from Africa are some of the best Devin songs yet, and I may think even higher of them later. Judgement is REALLY cool and has grown on me like hell. Babysong and A Simple Lullaby are gonna take more listens. The only songs I kinda don't like are Vampira/Vampolka, and even those aren't bad at all.

I pretty much hate both Vampolka and Vampira. I don't know, they seem just seem so out of place and destroy the flow.

The themes of the album are starting to jump out at me. (Similar riffs occuring throughout the album...)

For me, this is up there with Terria. It's a lot more instrumentalish, it doesn't focus too much on lyrics, which is cool with me.

I know what you mean dude, im using some hi-class Sennihisers and they do the job well. 8)

I'm waiting for the CD release, so I could listen to the album with my own HIFI set. Before that I can't say much about the sounds of the CDs.

And I don't really care to listen to music with headphones. They lack the physical part of sound, and create odd soundscape inside your head.

Eyesore wrote:Doesn't the beginning of "Vampira" make you think you're about to listen to a new version of "Ocean Machines" (the song)? This album is like something called The Ghosts of Devin Past. I'm catching all kinds of fleeting movements from every piece of work Devin has ever done, but nothing is a copy, it's all just moments, like when you see something out of the corner of your eye, look and nothing is there and you're like "What the hell was that?" I hear that all over this album...it's like deja vu, we've been here before...or have we?

It's such an emotionally stunning album!

I completely agree with you here. Except one riff in Vampira that sounds like *gasp* Metallica. But what you say about the hints of the past is very true. I'm loving it more with every listen though.

I meant...like sharing my files over a network like soulseek or P2P...
The RIAA goes after people who do the sharing....not so much the people doing the downloading.

The more files you share, the more risk that you'll get a court summons in the mail one day.

Oh, OK! Hahaha. You must have understood my  then! :D I don't share either, which is why people ban me all the time on Soulseek! Hahaha.

Yeah, the part were they go "HEY!" right? That's like an old school groovy thrash riff. It's awesome. How anyone could not like "Vampira" is beyond me!

This album pleases me so much. It is everything I had hoped it would be, and goes to places I didn't even consider coming from Devin. It's going to take a few months to grasp this one completely. :D

I see those sort of parts as very appreciable within the context because even though they do break the flow, that is what they are meant to do. It's like with Infinity, if you are trying to express the infinite then you would have to include opposites, which Devin has done by having glaringly different types of music sit alongside each other.

K here's my impression of the album

First 4 songs = Good, Grade A Material
Vampolka/pira = Intermission. funny, entertaining songs
Second half of the album = Godly, Grade A+++++++

I love it!

Vampira ia a VERY immediate song, whereas the rest of the album is more of a thinker's soundtrack, you have to pay attention and listen in order to fully enjoy it, whereas "Vampira" simply kicks your ass right out the gate! It's such an amazing tune, I'm shocked some of you don't like it.
