Synchestra is amazing, Devin didn't dissapoint as always (never had a doubt in my mind). I can't get over how brilliant he is... I love the way everything is so powerful because it's held back and then blows up with every beat (this applies to everything, not just Synch).

Good stuff, to say the least.

Awesome bonus DVD, too.

There are few greater geniuses in modern music than Devin Townsend. The latest release in a career that has seen countless solo albums, several albums as leader of metal legends Strapping Young Lad, an album singing for Steve Vai (who guests on this record) and a giant list of albums helmed as producer, Synchestra is among the greatest records Townsend has ever put forth. From the delicate acoustic intro to the thunderous "Baby Song", the surf combo pop of "Vampolka" to the futurism of "Gaia", the devastating immensity of "Pixillate" to the tumbling sway of "Notes from Africa", this is one diverse album! As with all of Townsend's great works, this will take weeks of listening to fully unravel and your appreciation for it will grow with every listen. Highly recommended indeed!

With Synchestra, SYL mastermind Devin Townsend will find out just how far his fans are willing to follow his vision. The prog-pop metal epic is meant to provide an emotional balm for both the artist and his listeners after the savagery that was SYL's Alien.

As melodious as Alien was manic, Synchestra is utopia of lullaby tempos and sunshine harmonies; even the albums heaviest track, "Vampira," is bathed in warm vibes. Fabs wanting to be taken to the edge of their angst are bound to be disapponited by Townsend's indulgence of his sensitive side, but his more open-minded devotees will discover another rewarding facet of this eclectic artist.

Just thought i would give my 2 cents on this album. Im new to DTB but not to SYL. I downloaded a couple of songs off of AE and thought they were great. So i decided i will get Synchestra when it comes out. at first it was ok...i really liked Vampira and babysong...but the rest just i dont know...seemed long and to drawn out. so i heard from everyone that devins albums take awhile to get used too. so i played it for a whole week the more i listened to it...the more the lyrics and melodys got stuck in my head! now i dont go a day without listening to half or the whole cd! i think DTB is a thinking mans band. theres more then meets the eye or ear.

damn well i think i posted this in the wrong place lol. oh well mods move it to were you think it would belong.

I have just coughed half a turkey sandwhich over the local rag around
these parts , the - HERALD SUN - (aussie newspaper) . I was quite
amazed to find a review of Synchestra within its entertainment section
( hence the loss of turkey sandwhich ! ) anyway it reads ....

As a counterbalance to his more aggressive work with the hard-driving
Strapping Young Lad , Canada's mad metal maestro, Devin Townsend,
explores his sensitive side with this dazzling new album.

Blurring the usually overt borders between hard metal and new-age folk,
Synchestra is a rich musical landscape that possesses a strange hypnotic
flow.

Opening with the emotional, Celtic-style , Let it Roll , the album takes on
a life of its own as it weaves through a striking series of melodic
ballads, dreamy lullabies, rollicking polkas and powerful , fist-pumping
rock.

Townsend's vocals are outstanding, especially on Let it roll , the goofy ,
yet tender , Babysong and the roaring heavy guitar riff-fest Vampira.

The highlight of a great record is the epic power rocker Triumph, which
features a shredding, atmospheric guitar solo from the sensational
Steve Vai.

IN SHORT : A laid-back trip through Devin's sensitive world
