I don't think it's going to be technically shitty. Even tho he may not care too much about the technical thing, I'm sure Devin is enough of a perfectionist and proffessionas to make it at least decent, likely a lot better.
And even if it would suck, I'm gonna love watching a DTB DVD over and over again.

Tracy wrote:I know this DVD is going to bring flack from tecchies because Devin doesn't care about the technical near as much as people think. It was very hard project for him to do, among the hardest. But, I tell you, if anyone has a complaint about content/techincal do NOT do it to me. It's one of those things that you know someone is going to bitch about, and one of those things we didn't HAVE to do it and it cost far more than will be earned from it. So anyone who has complaints, do it between each other, not in this section.

I guess I could see where this presumption comes from (and I remember the discussion on the quality of the SYL DVD), but this is a free bonus DVD, not a full-priced standalone product. Not that it was actually shitty in the first place. (Though I would have gone entirely without the overlaid waveform visuals, but that's a matter of taste preferences, not of technical specs). In short, I love it, and going for a studio performance instead of a inferior live recording of a support slot set was the right thing to do. I guess a full DTB live DVD will have to wait until after the 3-hour headlining set at Madison Square Garden. ;)

Am I right in suspecting that there were at least two performances recorded and cut together? Most obviously, Devin's glasses dis- and reappear inbetween shots... ;)

And I think I found the easter egg; my DVD player is so technically shitty (sic!) that pressing the "skip" button will get you to everything that is on the DVD sequentially, without caring about the DVD table of contents. Devin sure is one hell of a drummer!

oh dear, it's got you talking in the third person! i'm terribly sorry if my order is one of those making you grumpy. perhaps if you considered how much joy it is going to bring me and everyone else who gets one?

EDIT: naa, i'd be grumpy after four days too :/

I'll give no real spoilers either (it's better that way, right) but I bought it today and I'm watching the DVD now. I now know one DVD spec it has that's worth shouting about.

It has, with no exception, probably the best 'live sound' that I've heard on a music VHS/DVD....ever.

Previously, of all things, it was a Prince one recorded 'live in the studio' waaaaaaay back when he rocked and always had a guitar strapped on. Yeah, before you start, it's not metal - so sue me !

This though.....well, shit...it's just spot on in all departments.....and then some.

Congrats to all concerned on putting this together - whoever mixed this puppy down deserves some serious fuckin' praise !

!

Also he changes his guitar (before "Slow me down" starts) from his SG to the Strat...and the glasses are gone ;-)

And you can't see him changing his Strat into the SG after "Deep Peace"....weird

Ooh how suspicious.
Almost every band records multiple shows for (DVD) releases. Especially when you're playing in a studio, and there's no time pressure and audience involved.
Although they might have just cut some un-interesting stuff from in between the songs, like changing or tuning guitars, or Devin putting his glasses on and off.

As I said before, it was really hard to do because they played for almost 12 hours in a boiling hot room. The only thing that was one take is the guitar solo.

The issue with the glasses is they were broken (no nose pad) and kept fallling off. You can see one spot where they are gradually falling down his nose then hit the floor. Someone passes them up then they fall off again.

As I said in the other thread I think this dvd is great, after everything I wasn't sure what to expect, but it really rocked hard. Thanks for getting it out there.

Please quote the full sentence. "Free bonus" as in "not a full-priced standalone product" (like the SYL DVD).

Sorry to stir the shit but TECHNICALLY it isn't free, because then it would cost as much as the standard version. We payed EXTRA for the privilege of seeing Mr. Townsend and the boys rocking out. :)
