A lot of bands also don't like downloading (of entire albums) because it ruines the impact or surprise of the release. Without hearing it first, you get the anticipation, and then it's relased with full package and you get to take it home and soak it all in.

If you've had the album for 4 months already, and have been listening to it everyday, you might not consider it that big of a deal when it comes out.

They are artists and performers and are offering their creations. They want it to be received they way they think it should be, for their own reasons. Downloading takes away from this a bit as well.


Not only that, but it's a matter of respect. It's not always a matter of money.

I think Travis pretty much nailed it there. Beeing a musician myself, I'd rather not find my album floating around two months before the releasedate, it spoils the "surprise"...But I guess that's something we'll have to live with.

And i think that probably synchestra is one of those albums that can surprise you two times: after you listen to it the first time, and then, after you listen to it with a headphone. That's what happened to me with Alien!

I have this nagging feeling that Dev is pissed at us because a majority have downloaded Synchestra. Is this true?

I've deleted mine over a week and a half ago, if that makes any difference.

On-topic... I am really curious to hear Tracey (and though very unlikely Dev's) point of view on this! I have to agree that Devin cannot be happy with the number of people downloading it. Unfortunately it is available therefore inevitable. Not to say it's right or wrong, but inevitable none the less. I suppose it would be flattering to a point (maybe?) if it wasn't happening on such a grand scale
