I was just wondering how Devy got into the whole music production dealy, and if he self-taught himself how to do it all or went to college or something along those lines. He's done some great work with Soilwork, Darkest Hour, and, of course, SYL and DTB.

He had no training, just learned by closely watching others but mostly by necessity. For example, on one early album the engineer often never showed up so Dev was forced to do it all himself. There were days when he had to hit the 'record' button in the studio and run to the mic for each vocal line (one day I was the button pusher because there was no one else available). Same for the software, there was no one else to do it so he gave himself a crash course.

He learned a lot about recording tricks from the Vai experience and applied that to his own methods. As for doing other bands, he did local demos for friends then as time went on he just got more 'successful' friends. It's been mainly networking and learning as he goes.
