Not to be a nag or anything, but just a question about photography. I'm going to pick up my ticket for the Mr. Smalls show in Pittsburgh on the 18th. Im not sure on thier policy on cameras, but Ive been to a couple of places where if the bands allowed it you could bring in cameras, while Ill ask them tomorrow, I was curious as to yours and the bands' oppinion on this. I understand it could be a distraction and such, but if it was allowed and say a certain person was to take some decent pics and want to share them with you all, would you want said person to email them or what? Please excuse me if this is worded horribly, i just got off work and im exhausted.

It's usually venue policy, not band policy.

Band and venue are at a sense of legal policy. We will never get this sorted out!

It can be individual to each venue what their policy is. Also to each band. An opening act can't give permission unless the headliner also agrees. However, we have allowed cameras in before only to have friends we gave the permission to be forceably removed from a show because the venue doesn't allow it.

Some bands have policies that photos are only allowed in the first 3 songs to avoid the Circus Magazine sweaty & ugly shots. There are many variables.

By my experiance the promoter recieves all the requests for photo passes, takes them to the tour manager and then the tour manager checks out to see who to let in and if they are worth while (meaning who they shoot for)
Then it's 99.9% of the time (uless you're with the tour) that you will shoot only for 3 songs. This is mostly due to security reasons too.


But again, your best bet would be the promoter which also depends on who it is. House Of Blues is a BITCH to get passes through, but depends on the region. Local promoters might not care.
It also depends on who the band is.
A lot of things come into play.

Whatever you do, if you get approved, don't shoot digital!

If this is a show with Opeth you might have a problem though....You might have to proove that you're shooting for someone. (magazine or such) and have them request the pass through the label or again, the promoter.

Hey SDMF, Ive dealt with MrSmalls before about stuff like that, they are usually pretty lite on the pat-down, as long as you dont have it in your hand when your at the door, even after the whole Dimebag mess, what they dont see wont be taken away. The crowds are nice no matter what show, I was there for KMFDM, great time and ppl, awesome to BS with, there were cameras there so everyone had a good ol' time.

If I'm taking a camera, I always give the venue a call on the day of the gig just to be sure, hopefully they have good idea by then what everyone's policy is.

It sucks, but that's not for here.

I like both, like with music recording.

Digital is always vastly improving.
