This "Pril" liquid detergent for dishes always reminds of the WASP's The Headless Children cassette I bought and put on for the first time and did the dishes while listening to it. Whenever I smell that scent, I remember the kitchen setting and all the songs ring in my head. Shit, that's like fifteen years ago. *sighs*

Damp grass.

To the days when about 50 of us would have gigantic soccer matches in my estate til about 3 am and at 78-all we'd stop and go "Right, lads. Next goal wins and for god sake let that be it!" Good times...

The sense of smell, if I recall correctly, (pun most certainly intended), is the one sense that has the best and longest recall of all five senses. I'm sure I read that somewhere.

Smells that take me to Germany as a kid: Snow and pine.
The smell of brotchen and cheese takes me back to Germany for breakfast.
"Red Door" will always remind me of my first love.
chlorine takes me back to the swimming pool in Maryland.
Kimchi takes me back to Korea.
and dusty air that has some ozone in it takes me back to Oklahoma, with the dust storms and the smell of ozone prior to thunderstorms.

You spent your childhood in Germany? And now you have to write about it on a keyboard without any "Umlaute"? Oh wait, I'll fix it for you:

Let's see... At the beginning, two months ago or so, the smell in the bathroom in my girlfriend's new apartment reminded me of hotels in which I spent vacations when being younger. Especially at that age I never felt very comfortable with sleeping in another bed than my own. Hm... I guess that's the most recent one I can think of right now.

Wait, speaking of the smell of food: The smell of "Rotkohl" sometimes reminds me of one of my grandmothers. She used to cook for it me when we visited her. I was at the age of... don't know, maybe three? The thing is, I don't really remember those days, my mother told me about it. Interesting that the smell still works as a connection to those days, when the conscious memory doesn't.

You want some? Alright - my work is done

They do exist in other countries. At least in Germany they're kind of a traditional part of the breakfast. Basically it's just bread in all its variety, only smaller.

Click me and enter the Haggis!

I never smelt Haggis. But I guess it would remind me of those long hours spent hanging over the toilet after too much alcohol...

Scottish

We used to have brotchen (no I can't do an Umlaut!) for breakfast every day when we were on holiday in Austria :D
I think you can buy them in The Netherlands, too
