The new record sounds warmer, kewler and I seem to enjoy it very much. Even though I didn't follow them during the last years (did I ever?) I think I'm glad that they made a positive return.
I wouldn't consider myself as an hardcore Deftones fan but are there any other fans here? And what in three devils names does that means?:
U,U,D,D,L,R,L,R,A,B,Select,Start

It's a 'famous' cheatcode. From Contra.

"U,U,D,D,L,R,L,R,A,B,Select,Start" is from the Konami game "Contra" on the old Nintendo NES system. When you input that code on your controller, "U=Up", "D=Down", "L=Left", "R=Right", "A=A button", "B=B Button", "Select Button", "Start Button"...you would get 99 lives, if I remember correctly.
I am a huge deftones fan, and think this is their best album since "Around the Fur". I would most certainly recommend this album to anyone on this board, if only for "Hole in the Earth", "Beware" and "Cherry Waves".

Similar codes were used for a number of NES games actually.

Thanks lads!
Yeah, Hole in the Earth is great. I still can't (somehow) believe that I really listening to the Deftones. I mean that new record seems to be made by someone else, directly out of the ash.
Great.

I love it,
Although something about the song Xerces makes me really sad. I just get a bunch of past-horrible experiences in my mind when that song comes along.
I still like the older stuff better (Adrenaline-Around the Fur being my top fav's)

Yeah, but I believe that it worked against you. If I am correct, if you used the code in Xevious, it killed you.

Haha, really? I remember it worked on Gradius at least...Ah well, we need another thread for this.

Back on track...if you can listen to "Hole in the Earth" and not agree the Stephen Carpenter's tone on this song is VERY beautfiul and crystalline, then avoid this record. If you hear the song and find the Chino's vocals are actually quite good, and the the drummer for the deftones is one of the more underrated musicians of what was the "nu-metal" or "rap-metal" genre, then you'll find the rest of the record to be as pleasing.
Well, except maybe that cellphone song...that's kind of annoying.

Yeah, but the girl at the end explaining backdoor sex is funny. It wasn't even supposed to stay on the album, it was shortened without it, but I guess Maverick decided to stick that on with the tipper sticker as well. (Stephen said this in a interview)

Beware The Water and Hole in the Sky - two of their best ever songs for certain.
