A little help if possible....

I have this powerpoint presentation coming up. My report is on Carl Jung and Sigmund Freud. I've got everything ready except the background music for the presentation. I'm in desperate need of a song. I'd like to keep it Jung or Freud related. Preferably Jung. I thought about a song from Anima by Tool sense most of that album is Jungian (if that sounds appropriate). I'd thought about a Devin Townsend track, but I cant think of a perfect song.

well, depends on the mood of your presentation, that's something very hard to pick. Honestly, my "academic presentation" side would say "no music at all".

Yeah, usually no music during a presentation is the thing to do. Distracts many people. especially if you choose Tool or something (Unless its a long boring one, like Wings Pt.1/2 imo)

I'm doing a presentation on James Gosling, creator of Java programming-language. Me and my friend are gonna record a mini-movie to stick in the middle, its gonna be hilarious :P

Jung and Freud? What is it about?

About the music: psychoanalysis of that era is all about middle class Vienna. So the vienese classics, that's Mozart, Haydn and Beethoven, should be perfect for background music, if there needs to be background music at all. Don't get creative in that department, because the emphasis should really be on background, not on music. You wouldn't want to go "... and then Freud said to Jung 'Why are you bringing this up now, do you wish me harm' ... oh listen to this vocal harmony, it's classic Devin ... so, where was I?".

I agree, no music. It's a complete distraction, plus people tend to sing along and take no notice of your work cos there to busy singing the song...ive had that happen to me plenty of times when I was in high school. :)

The music is required. I would go without music as well, but I really don't have a choice. Now, that I think about it something instrumental would be great. Something soft.

Maybe you should pick the soundtrack from a movie or something. Calm and atmospheric, not very distracting usually.

I'll look into Wings for Marie pt 1. All these suggestions are great! Thank you guys very much! I thought about using Judgement from Synchestra. It's got a great mood, and such atmosphere that it may go well with my presentation.

Judgement is not a good pick. Way too loud and to aggressive. Mind you not many people like the music that you love!

If Sunset was just a little bit longer, I would use it. I could maybe do some merging or play it on repeat.

If I were to pick out a song everyone were to enjoy, it would be whorish rap music. That is diffentially not my taste.

Do you need "a song" or " background music"? I think it makes a big difference because if you're going to play a rap song or Judgement as background music, I don't think your words will really reach the audience, they're too distracted by the music. If you need the music to play while you're speaking, use something calm and meandering, rather than more explosive and demanding things.

Also: try something of Devlab, maybe, one of the more musical parts?
