I've been a huge fan of SYL for about 2 years, and DTB for a year and a half. His music has already done so much for me as far as filling the gap left bare by most of the bands in my existing music collection. From insane highs to desperate lows, his music really does hit it all. But you guys are the ones that really pick this shit to pieces and give it some meaning besides another CD in the booklet. I've been lurking here on the boards for a couple weeks now, exploring mostly the forums dedicated to each individual album. I remember hearing Terria for the first time, and being very puzzled by the structures and layering that Devin incorporates into his music. I took the album with me when I went on vacation to California (I live in Raleigh NC) and pretty much listened to it non-stop for 10 days. Since then I've listened to it countless times, and picked up all his other stuff on the way. Believe me when I say that his music has had a huge impact on the way I listen to music and other bands, and I really feel bad for those people in the world that don't have the ability or interest to latch onto music the way us Devin fans do. I really can't imagine a world without music that moves me in ways otherwise impossible, and my only solace in these other folks lies in the fact that they don't know what they're missing, because they've never experienced it...
Anyways the point of this long (sorry) post is to thank all of you guys for your contributions here. I've been scrolling through every page of these forums, reading every thread, and listening as I read. I love reading all you guys' crazy interpretations of Devin's lyrics, seeing how everyone hears the little whispers differently, and I love learning a brand new thing about a song I've already listened to 500 times and naively thought I knew everything about. I think I really can say with confidence now that I will be a lifetime fan of Devin's work. Everyone cycles through bands, has phases, etc., but there are just those special ones that stick with you.
If you took the time to read this, thanks a lot, and I might be getting to know you guys a little better because I plan on contributing here from now on. If any of you post over on the Megadeth BB I'm a regular there, you may already know me. It's one hell of a forum and there are flocks of Devy fanatics there too.
PEACE!
