Anyone a fan? I've been trying real hard to get into some lately and it hasn't been working too well. I'm listening to the album "Front by Front" by Front 242 and I'm liking it. However, I tried some Skinny Puppy and it did next to nothing for me.

I am a huge fan of Ministry's, but until recently that is as far as I've tried to go with the genre... I really love the punk and metal influence in their music. I suppose that nowadays it's more like metal with a punk/industrial influence, eh?

So does anyone have some recommendations for lil' ol' me?

Thank you very much! Yes, I liked the few Ulver songs I heard (the ones on their myspace... I still think Arcturus > them though) and I'll definitely check more of them out, as well as the rest.

I wouldn't compare Arcturus and Ulver though, as the only common link they have is Garm, and Arcturus was more of a side project for him, plus Skoll who played bass in the black metal times. Otherwise they are in two completely different genres, and the guys in the bands are entirely different Even in the black metal periods, they didn't share much in common - Ulver was more extreme and Arcturus was already more of a progressive band.

I really like his vocals, though. He has a wide range of influences in his singing and that's awesome. He sometimes sounds like Mike Patton even!

FUCKIN YEAH

Foetus has a great old school industrial type of sound, although JG's newer stuff is much cleaner sounding, it still fits in the industrial category and is very good.

GODFLESH

Lines are blurred industrial has a ballache of subgenres. Lots of experimental gets labelled that way as does a lot of just average dark electronic pop. Good to see a heads up for Coil and bands like that. Skinny puppy at first its hard to figure out whats going on but once you are there it all makes sense i recommend the singles collection so you can see which era you may or may not be interested. For the record skinny puppy are the greatest live band i have ever seen.

The most important band in TR00 industrial experimental would have to be Einstürzende Neubauten. If you're listening to 242 you should check out pre-millennium kmfdm & any of martin atkins band Pigface you can find. Good to see a mention for cabaret voltaire "crackdown" is an awesome record.

Industrial is an umberella a truckload of shit seems to get thrown under i'm not sure why. Industrial began with Throbbing gristle in the late 70's when they created the label called industrial to release the album "20 jazz funk hits" but again are just much more of an experimental band.

Godflesh are one of my favourite bands but arent really industrial the only thing that might make them is the fact justin didnt have a drummer so programmed his drums.

Oh yeah, I forgot Skinny Puppy from the list.

Haujobb have some cool stuff out there. A little more experimental.

VNV Nation are a little more on the dance/techno side, but still dark enough to be cool.

Frontline Assembly are pretty good.

Stromkern is a band my wife just got into, and they sound pretty decent as well.

I'll get to the rest of this stuff eventually.. But for now I have to say that Coil is fucking sweet.

EDIT: Seriously, this is something I would have dreamt of. It's almost perfect! The album I'm listening to is Horse Rotorvator - it sounds downright fucking evil at times. Thanks a bunch Torniojaws!

I listen to Ministry, KMFDM, PIG [or Raymond Watts], Older Nine Inch Nails, some Skinny Puppy. I imagine I'd like MDFMK too, if I can find their CD anywhere
