i li'm not really looking for a genre in specific, although most things that would qualify will probably be kinda progressive. i just want something with interesting song structures, emotion, dramatic shifts, technical but still with melody, and just overall something good. It can be anywhere from Nevermore to The Mars Volta to Devin Townsend to Tool to Radiohead or whatever, I just want to hear something really cool and interesting (but not weird to the exclusion of all else).

I just realized everything I named was kinda prog but whatever.

if you like Radiohead then check out the band 'Pinback'
I guess you know "Deadsoul Tribe"? They are pretty Tool'ish
I think the band 'Communic' is quite a lot like Nevermore
Porcupine Tree are always good when you like Prog
You may also like the band 'Oceansize'
'Paatos' is good...I consider their Album "Kallocain" a really good Prog Rock CD...and their vocalist is a lady.
'Anathema' are great too...especially the more recent stuff.

Sikth are decent, except their singer and songwriting annoys me. Spiral Architect are super technical and yummy, same with Behold the arctopus. I've heard Oceansize, Deadsoul Tribe and Anathema, they're all pretty OK. I'll check out the other bands you mentioned though.

Riverside, polish prog with heavy Blackfield/Porcupine Tree and Opeth influences. Very damn good.

Communic, like PT meets Nevermore.

Farmakon, a thrashier, jazzier Opeth-esque death metal from Finland.

Jesu - Silver

It's like Cult of Luna, that makes you actually feel good instead of wanting to cut yourself.

Hmm, I've been on a real Tea Party kick lately, check out The Edges of Twilight if you haven't already done so. Awesome melodies, huge production, and incorporates middle eastern instrumentation in as good of a way I've heard.

And believe it or not, SIlverchair's last album, Diorama is freakin brilliant but I haven't really seen anyone out of Australia agree. Sure it's not exacty Meshuggah but it's just so damn lush.

Speaking of Meshuggah, I'm assuming you've already heard them, Dillinger Escape Plan and Sigur Ros. If not there's 3 bands to obsess over.

I've tried Porcupine Tree, Liquid Tension Experiment, Opeth etc.
They play, alright. But I want something more unique like Ozric Tentacles which most people would find bizarre.

Have you heard Magma?

Yo dubington, i have magma stuff, it started out by me checking out the hrg cover art then i picked up some of his stuff. The guy from magma created his own language as lyrics. He's like prog +10. Cool though.

Right now i'll recommend Melvins Vs Lustmord : Pigs Of The Roman Empire. If your looking for everything & more tihs record has it. Some people say they found it challenging it really isnt its just a big ol' slab of something never been done before and executed perfectly.
