I think when people create art such as that it certainly is beautiful to look at. There is a stencil artist who was from Bristol though I doubt he is here anymore called Banksy. He has done stuff all over the world and I think one of the aspects I find particularly enjoyable is his sense of humour or signposting to how he feels about an area. Take a look at his site if you're interested http://www.banksy.co.uk/menu.html for an idea of what he does.

Any graffity around here is most likely the local sports team (who are a lot better than your local sports team!) name written in a childish handwriting.

Hey, I'm from the Chicago area, there's TONS of great graffiti around here, but the only problem is that so much of it is so gang related, which I am very against, and I don't like stopping when driving through any bad areas in Chicago, so I doubt I'll be able to take any photos, but if you're ever in the area, go around and check some of it out, there's some great art.

Chicago sounds interesting Psychotic! Its a shame about the gangs, a bit of that goes on here too but most graffiti isnt in so called 'bad areas' though.

I'm a big fan of artistic graffiti, and not just tagging. Unfortunately, all you see in Philly is tags, and most horribly done at that. I've always been a big fan of stencils.. check out http://www.m-city.org for my favorite, especially the murals!

Nice man :) Some of those town stencils remind me of MC Escher's work. Your moving to Melbourne Aus? Youll defiantly like the walls here!

If you don't have enough of it in this thread, check this guy's gallery:

http://bedur.yh.pl/foto/wyscigi/index.php

Shots are taken at Wyscigi in Warsaw - there's long wall surrounding the old horse racing track, all covered with paintings (wall, not the track :)). Way cooler than typical nicely painted letters or stencil stuff.
