Loss of Art

Have any of you ever felt that you've lost a "skill"?

I used to be a very active poet/writer (I use that term with distaste), who would write all the time, from dusk till dawn, seemingly with ease. Not to pull my own horn, I could write very good poetry or stories that teachers said were at Uni level.

I can't do this anymore.

Do any of you also suffer these alarming losses?

Yeppers!
I used to paint alot. but in the last few years I am completely uninspired. If I picked up a brush now, I would be just fucking around. Odd really. Cant explain it.

I've never had any real talents....the only thing I could say is that when I was younger I wasn't bad at drawing, but I never developed it to any decent level

I used to write poetry too! Must do some again.
I used to write a bit of electronic music, i havent been able to get back into it in the last few years though! I Draw everynow and then but i should do it more often. I bought some Cdjs (like turnbtables but for cds) and have been mixing a bit, if you consider that an Art :) I did a bit of a devin set once :) some of his songs really mix well into each other.

I have to admit, I've found it harder to write over the last few years. I used to be very prolific with ideas a few years ago, but a LOT of big personal stuff's happened in recent times and I think it's kept the old brain pulled in a few too many different directions for comfort.
Still, I get the odd creative hot streak every now and again, which is a huge relief - I just need to learn how to keep them going again.
I believe that talent/art never dies, it's just that life tends to barge in and take the reins every once in a while... but if you're good at something it'll always be there :)

I used to have far more time to draw than I do now, and I think that his hindered my progress greatly. I used to find it easy to think of ideas, but now I have to really dedicate myself if I am to come up with anything.

Ahhh well, I look forward to an early retirement...then I can regress to a child-like state of inspiration.

Or something.

I used to have years breaks of not playing music at all. It is frustrating to get the skills back after a long perioud.

I never had any skills, so I can't lose them either :D

As the infamous JC (Johan Cruyff, you all know!) said: Every disadvantage has it's advantage (or the other way around, no-one remembers). So very true.

I think some things go in and out, I've never found it's a loss of art, so much as a loss of muse or inspiration.

Don't remind me of anything remotely football-related right now! Damn, we Krauts suck and the World Championships will be a disaster for us...

Obviously Germany as a nation lost its collective football playing ability... :?
