Rick Rubin IS producing the new Metallica record!

Yeah, unlike a lot of people, I don't agree that Bob Rock is the sole cause of Metallica's downfall. I don't really see any good coming out of this.

If they come out with something good, I'll be very very surprised.

Im not much of a fan of Rick, im a chilli peppers fan and i USED to like SOAD before Daron decided that he would play the bands god. there are a few more bands that i cant think of along with many shitty talentless rappers. but i think this might alter the sound of metallica considerably aswell as robert writing with the other guys

He should start by:

a) telling Lars to stop playing plastic buckets and return to the drums
b) reminding them what a riff is
c) finding someone to write lyrics that won't use such useless lines as 'Frantic-tick-tick-tick-tick-tick-tock'

Hahahah i thought the worst lyrics on that record were "invisble kid fell down a grid etc...." i find it hard not to laugh at that.

So long as they get rid of the trash can drums it will be a step in the right direction.

As for his input into the direction of the album i'm not so sure. I hope they prove me wrong and produce a great album but I've sort of given up hoping for that.

Lets hope for some more solos on this one!

I acctually found Invisible kid to be one of the songs that was good. i think i would have liked the album if the production wasnt a peice of horse shit. and maybe if they took more time writing the songs instead of making them up as they went along

no matter what it sounds like, people will dislike it because it's metallica. I'm looking forward to it, and I'm gonna listen to it with a completely open mind and clean slate.

I won't buy it because I've never bought a Metallica record. Not because I have any particular reason not to... there's just so much out there that I'd rather pay for first!

They are going to get rid of the soda can snare, and the are going to put solo's on the next record.
They are not going to have a shrink around and write the songs while they are in the studio. So that should be good.

Also, Rick Rubin seems to be a good producer. You may or may not like the bands he's worked with, it alwals sounds good and that's his part of the job.

As always we'll just have to wait for it. There is some vid out there somewhere, of Metallica jamming on a new riff during some soundcheck for some festival. But we'll never know if that one riff they jammed on two years ago has anything to do with a new album.

I agree with you on everything except for that I don't think many of Rick Rubin's records sound that good...

Oh by the way, I think the snare on Fear Factorys Transgression resembles the one on St. Anger.
