I've heard knitting is apparently quite hip now.
I'd personally be more interested in the painting side of thigns, though the advantage of knitting and stuff is you can just sit in fron t of the tv diong it or whatever to chill out, which is probably a good idea to combat stress

Hey, I used to do tapestry when I was a child, and I turned out fine! And I am also a guy. Right?
I totally recommend the painting. Anything like that is really going to help externalise your feelings and sooth you in some way or another. And you may even be good at it!
And then you can show us all here (well, in the Fan Art forum, ha) what you have painted.
Best of luck!

When I want to relax and chill out I go to my local airport (Birmingham) with my mini-disc player and watch the aeroplanes.
Tis a bit geeky I know, but I love it. When I see a plane I feel like an excited child lol.

Assuming you don't do it already, I'd recommend playing a music instrument. It can be very relaxing.

As another dude who has done knitting...it's REAL relaxing. You are having to focus on such a small area, and do things that are fairly complicated, so you can't help but relax.
Hope it works out for you, and don't listen to the haters/naysayers

Where did the knitting thing come from?
It looks like the next Myspace fad after suicide

Knitting has one significant advantage: you can knit yourself a black sweater. Black sweaters are cool and make you artsy. I have one.
EDIT: ok, maybe I add some proposition. I spent lots of time completing and painting small army for Warzone tabletop game. Didn't played much, but creatively wasted lots of time (painting such small things require quite a bit of patience) - and painted figures look quite nice on the shelf
you know, stuff like that:

(I have such headhunter, but not that well painted. And couldn't be arsed to make this spiffy grass on the base)

Knitting is a pretty good timekiller, excellent when you're listening to music too. Used to do it like 10 years ago, maybe I should pick it up again...I could do some badass hats!

Knitting and other activities that focus on small precise movements (like the warhammer painting) freak me out even more. Whenever I have to do such things, after like 15 minutes I feel really tensed and aggressive and I want to kill something. I'd probably REPLACE the needle in the eye of the nearest living creature, and not in a delicate way.
So I'm going to make one subtle and obscene suggestion.

That is breathtakingly amazing!
For me, I just stick to sports and music with other things in there every once in a while.
I'm getting a huge interest in world mythology and history lately, been watching the Travel and Discovery channels a lot when they show stuff like the wonders of the world or reasons people believed certain things.
For instance, they now believe that dinosaur and mammoth bones are the reason that giants were once believed to have existed as well a cyclops (nose hole was believed to be the eye socket).

I ride my bike to chill out and release stress. I especially enjoy a good trail in the mountains, or hill or at least off the street. Put it in gear, motherfucker! For tonight, we ride!
I mean, of course, a pedal bike, not a motorcycle.
